Coulter on Caroline Kennedy: 'Every Time She Opens Her Mouth It Gets Worse'

(and other gentle musings from the irritatingly leggy author of Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America)
By Myrna Blyth
Amazon

Ann Coulter is at it again. Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America (Crown Forum), the newest book from the leggy, blonde, irritatingly slender liberal-basher hits bookstores this week and is already climbing Amazon’s bestseller list. And so the usual media Ann-a-rama has begun with Coulter launching the book on her pal Sean Hannity’s radio and TV shows. She’ll be on “Today” on Tuesday and will follow that with countless interviews. UPDATE: She was supposed to be on "Today" on Tuesday but was abruptly cancelled.   "Today" claims it was because of "breaking news." Coulter isn’t buying that.   The "Today" cancellation just adds to the controversy she is the master at creating.    Undoubtedly she will do countless other interviews. -Myrna

Coulter’s publicist says she never turns down an interview, even on radio talk shows that sound as if they emanate from someone’s garage. She knows her people are listening and buying thousands of copies of her books. She has already had six New York Times mega-bestsellers. Yes, there is a vast right-wing book-buying public who loves a girl who can call JFK “a venereal-disease-ridden sexual profligate and drug addict”; who never forget that “Sen. Ted Kennedy drove Mary Jo Kopechne off the Chappaquiddick Bridge”; who can recall that “President Clinton walked to and from church every Sunday carrying a ten-pound bible for the cameras – and then returned from church on Palm Sunday, 1996, to use a cigar as a sexual aid on Monica Lewinsky”; who can document, in footnote after footnote, that the Swift Boat Veterans were correct in their condemnation of the war record of “the mountebank Kerry.”

Judging by his Cabinet choices, Obama may not be as crazy as I thought he was. That may be worse for my career but better for the country.

I talked to Coulter about Guilty as she was about to embark on her media tour. The book is (no surprise) another in her attacks against liberals. Her thesis this time is that liberals always act like they are being victimized, primarily by the Republican Attack Machine. While in fact, they, with the help of a very biased media, tend to victimize all who disagree with them. She has written about media bias before. “I really didn’t intend to make the book so much about the media,” she told me, "but I just couldn’t help it because the media has so much power. They like to act as if they are powerless, but everything today is about the media. I just had to point out all their dirty little tricks. If you are Paul Revere you have to sound the alarm.”

Now, let’s get one thing straight. I’m a member of the media who is about as unbiased in my political leanings as, say, The New York Times. In general, I think Ann is often more right than wrong, no pun intended. Oh, sure, she goes over the top once in a while, but when she does she is no more unfair or unbalanced then, say, Frank Rich or Keith Olbermann. And she is a lot funnier. In fact, she is often laugh-out-loud funny. And as for being a judge of the true character of some of our political leaders, do remember it was Ann who appraised John Edwards correctly long before his supporters and, unfortunately, Elizabeth Edwards ever did.

Guilty is full of interesting set-pieces such as her report on how the Media Attack Machine turned, during primary season, on their longtime dearly beloved Bill Clinton. She writes, “Obama emerged from the clouds, and at long last, liberals were finished with the Clintons … It took a decade but journalists finally noticed that Clinton getting serviced by a White House intern whose name he couldn’t recall may not have been the equivalent of the Gettysburg Address.” She points out that journalists acted as if Clinton had changed, rather than as if they were no longer covering up for him. Todd Purdum in Vanity Fair said Clinton’s “cavernous narcissism” was related to his triple-bypass surgery. Coulter writes, “Yes, who doesn’t know someone who, after open-heart surgery, becomes an egomaniacal, pathologically lying horndog?”

Ann Coulter’s book is not outrageous. She is part of the neo-con, zionist machine. Her books are not controversial, they are neo-con wet dreams. Read a book that’s actually been banned like “America Deceived”, not a corporate-approved Coulter ‘novel’. Don’t waste your hard-earned money on Coulter. Oh, you forgot to add ‘The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy’ to your inane comments. Neo-con, Zionist, etc. what in the hell are you smoking? You have just elected an empty suit who couldn’t have obtained even a Secret clearance, let alone a Top Secret one, for the position he is/will be filling and then today the vastly inexperienced candidate for POTUS names an equally inexperienced LEON PANETTA as head of the CIA!?! This is change? This is hope?

Ann Coulter Crazy, Souless, Evil B*tch
Given that you folks support people like Bush and Palin….I wouldn’t worry your hollow little heads about ‘empty suits. that’s laughable.

Everyone gets twisted when Coulter is the subject. And what gets revealed is, mostly, the bias on the poster. You hate liberals? Then you like Ann. It doesn’t even bother you that, f’instance, she wishes Tim McVeigh had blown up the NY Times. (That’s “humor”). If you can calm down, though, and actually read her stuff, you can see the method: take a detail, generally out of context, and have it stand for the whole subject, whatever it is. So say what you will about the “entertainment” value and “rightness” of Coulter’s book, here’s a simple truth: If your kid went to a good school (I mean, high academic standards) and turned in papers argued and researched like Coulter’s….he/she would flunk. But hey, who on Coulter’s side cares about accuracy? Or logic? Get angry! Defend her/attack her targets! Just, for God’s sake, don’t apply anything like the rigor you use in your own life! Because then you might have an intelligent opinion….

Spoken like a true elitist Liberal, the ones who believe only their opinions are intelligent. There are two kinds of Democrats; the elitists, who think people are too stupid to take care of themselves so they must do it for them, and the people who are, in fact, too stupid to take care of themselves (because that is what the elitists’ taught them).

Holy Mackerel! What a great fishing expedition we have here, the bait, of course, being Coulter, who has been pricked and pierced by a lot of squiggly hooks but then, out of no where a savior arrives to put her back in the waters and drop more manna in from heaven. I’m almost finished reading through this when I come to Madelyn’s post here and it stops me. She is responding to the above Carnegie Hill’s intelligent and I’d say, fair, posting and she decides to tell us that C.H. has spoken like a true elitist liberal and then proceeds to define democrats––there are only two?in the most ridiculous description––wrong and cruel. Stupid is a good word to use in many instances. In this instance, I think I might.

Phyllis I agree with you that CH was making a fair point and Madelyn got hooked by it. I know this is hard to believe, but the types of things that Madelyn was saying about liberals is the type of thing that many liberals say about republicans, conservatives and independents on this site. Just as fueled with anger. I see no difference and it happens to anyone who sounds more conservative. I am not complaining, just saying I can’t understand why the liberals remark about it when many of them do it themselves? The partisan fueled perceptions of each other really get in the way. One conservative speaks out and then 10 jump in on them.

Hi Madelyn’ It sounds to me that you are describing Carmel-by-the-sea. She thinks she is better than anyone else.

Irish Eyes - Does she REALLY think? Amazing.

This site reminds me of a bunch of dogs ganging up & attacking. It’s not a pretty sight & really does not speak well for women. It’s not our best moment—its bringing out every ugly thing about women. Wowowow doesn’t care—you don’t see them deleting any of these nasty comments—because its bringing more people to the site—making rich pockets richer. Like Ann Coulter herself—is nothing too low for some rich people if it makes pockets jingle?

Char Star - I suggest or rather recommend that you click on the avatar of Carmel-by-the-Sea and read a half dozen of her comments. She also posts as Suzanne, Frenchie, By the Beach and several more identities. There you will find the reason why we of the Right no longer have any compunction about answering her posts in her own language. In fact, we are more subdued in our responses. Perhaps you are a mite disturbed because the website has been visited by so many Ann Coulter supporters and suddenly the numbers have changed around here and it is the Right who has the majority supporters …. at least for this day on this thread. Sour grapes, hmm?

Miss Bonnie — You forgot “Hollywood Starlett” and Princess Something or the other. Plus various other names. The many faces of this woman. And, I agree, some no longer have any compunction about answering her posts. However, I try not to. I have respectfully requested that she not respond to me. There have been times when she could be quite charming. Now, I have concern for her. Maybe another long walk on the beach. I’m truly disappointed that she isn’t moving to France — I think they would love her there.

Yes, Lady Gator, I agree. Something happened to Suzanne that turned her into this venomous poster. When I first began to participate in wOw discussions, I looked forward to her posts and we communicated quite genially, though from different perspectives….. though I must admit she was almost vitriolic in her comments about Hillary Clinton. When Obama became the frontrunner and then the nominee she turned into this fount of hate spewing hatred at McCain and all folks on the right except Senator Chuck Hagel. I don’t understand it and really do not care. She is not the woman I first thought her to be. Mostly I ignore her posts but she replies to my comments frequently.
