Coulter on Caroline Kennedy: 'Every Time She Opens Her Mouth It Gets Worse'

(and other gentle musings from the irritatingly leggy author of Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America)
By Myrna Blyth
Amazon

Ann Coulter is at it again. Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America (Crown Forum), the newest book from the leggy, blonde, irritatingly slender liberal-basher hits bookstores this week and is already climbing Amazon’s bestseller list. And so the usual media Ann-a-rama has begun with Coulter launching the book on her pal Sean Hannity’s radio and TV shows. She’ll be on “Today” on Tuesday and will follow that with countless interviews. UPDATE: She was supposed to be on "Today" on Tuesday but was abruptly cancelled.   "Today" claims it was because of "breaking news." Coulter isn’t buying that.   The "Today" cancellation just adds to the controversy she is the master at creating.    Undoubtedly she will do countless other interviews. -Myrna

Coulter’s publicist says she never turns down an interview, even on radio talk shows that sound as if they emanate from someone’s garage. She knows her people are listening and buying thousands of copies of her books. She has already had six New York Times mega-bestsellers. Yes, there is a vast right-wing book-buying public who loves a girl who can call JFK “a venereal-disease-ridden sexual profligate and drug addict”; who never forget that “Sen. Ted Kennedy drove Mary Jo Kopechne off the Chappaquiddick Bridge”; who can recall that “President Clinton walked to and from church every Sunday carrying a ten-pound bible for the cameras – and then returned from church on Palm Sunday, 1996, to use a cigar as a sexual aid on Monica Lewinsky”; who can document, in footnote after footnote, that the Swift Boat Veterans were correct in their condemnation of the war record of “the mountebank Kerry.”

Judging by his Cabinet choices, Obama may not be as crazy as I thought he was. That may be worse for my career but better for the country.

I talked to Coulter about Guilty as she was about to embark on her media tour. The book is (no surprise) another in her attacks against liberals. Her thesis this time is that liberals always act like they are being victimized, primarily by the Republican Attack Machine. While in fact, they, with the help of a very biased media, tend to victimize all who disagree with them. She has written about media bias before. “I really didn’t intend to make the book so much about the media,” she told me, "but I just couldn’t help it because the media has so much power. They like to act as if they are powerless, but everything today is about the media. I just had to point out all their dirty little tricks. If you are Paul Revere you have to sound the alarm.”

Now, let’s get one thing straight. I’m a member of the media who is about as unbiased in my political leanings as, say, The New York Times. In general, I think Ann is often more right than wrong, no pun intended. Oh, sure, she goes over the top once in a while, but when she does she is no more unfair or unbalanced then, say, Frank Rich or Keith Olbermann. And she is a lot funnier. In fact, she is often laugh-out-loud funny. And as for being a judge of the true character of some of our political leaders, do remember it was Ann who appraised John Edwards correctly long before his supporters and, unfortunately, Elizabeth Edwards ever did.

Guilty is full of interesting set-pieces such as her report on how the Media Attack Machine turned, during primary season, on their longtime dearly beloved Bill Clinton. She writes, “Obama emerged from the clouds, and at long last, liberals were finished with the Clintons … It took a decade but journalists finally noticed that Clinton getting serviced by a White House intern whose name he couldn’t recall may not have been the equivalent of the Gettysburg Address.” She points out that journalists acted as if Clinton had changed, rather than as if they were no longer covering up for him. Todd Purdum in Vanity Fair said Clinton’s “cavernous narcissism” was related to his triple-bypass surgery. Coulter writes, “Yes, who doesn’t know someone who, after open-heart surgery, becomes an egomaniacal, pathologically lying horndog?”

I know, she sounds like a spoiled child stamping her foot… much like Elisabeth Hasslewhatever when she’s not getting her way. Coulter’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard though.

Well, I didn’t see her stomp off—I only lasted about 10 seconds. What are people trying to accomplish by all of that shouting over each other? If that’s the direction journalism or whatever it’s called, is taking, no wonder we’re in so much trouble. By the way Suzanne, I am going to mount a youtube that I am starting to cirulate tonight because it’s about the negligence we have done as a country all these years. Tom Friedman in the last chapter of his book, HotFlat&Crowded mentioned being at this speech delivered in 1992 by a 12 year old girl named Severn Suzuki from Vancouver speaking in front of the Earth Summit. The reason I am putting it here is because it’s been on my mind all day, and I want to share it with my buddies here on wow. How nice it would be if we could spend more time listening to and thinking about the creative aspects we could be doing with our lives instead of these terrible people that have, when one thinks about it, have accomplished nothing in their lives except denigrating others and shouting. And, that is the reason I so dislike Coulter, Limbaugh and Hannity. Where would they be if every one started thinking in a positive tone and trying to make this a better world for not just us in the here and now, but for our children and grandchildren? If that ever happens Coulter and friends won’t last one more day….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZsDliXzyAY

I wish we could think more about the women that are trying to do good in the world than the rantings of angry people. Severn Suzuki today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severn_Cullis-Suzuki

Diana— Thanks for posting two excellent videos. That’s just one reason that the last 8 squandered hellish years with flatlanders in charge, and bolstered by their propagandist that help rankel the knuckle dragging hordes keeps us from making progress on the important things while they help criminal regiemes like Bush steal everything in site. Hitler’s propagandists wound up in prison too for formenting wars of aggression. Coulter/Rush/Savage deserve no less. I wish that they were all indicted and sitting on the docket at The Hague…then the sane world could get on with the business of solving Global Warming that they do not believe in, and repairing the economy that they raped. Coulter is a cynical, lying, opportunistic c-word who has destroyed so much and stands for everything that is opposite of American good. She is evil.

There are more important things in this world than Ann Coulter, DeB. She won’t handle it very well when she realizes it someday.

The Ann Coulter Song viewed 700K times. And Coulter called herself a Christian and saying that heaven will be like the GOP Convention. Not a Christian….opposite of everything that Jesus stood for…just a w*ore for the NeoCons and going to hell along with them for your part in an illegal, immoral, murderous, phony war. Enjoy hell Coulter…you are definitely going there, no question. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye_2a7Lrl80

Phyllis, I so agree that ‘Every Time She Opens Her Mouth It Gets Worse.’….Ann Coulter is like a roadside accident….don’t want to look, know it will be ugly, but take a sidelong glance nonetheless….and yes…horrid.

Carmel, check out all the first time posters who have come in to praise Coulter. I’ve counted 18 so far. Do you think she sent out an e-mail alert to her fans?

Absolutely. Wonder what she will do for work when Senator Frankin reinstates the Fairness Doctrine? President John F. Kennedy on being a liberal: “President John F. Kennedy on being a liberal… “I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas. It is, I believe, the faith in our fellow citizens as individuals and as people that lies at the heart of the liberal faith. For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man’s ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves I believe also in the United States of America, in the promise that it contains and has contained throughout our history of producing a society so abundant and creative and so free and responsible that it cannot only fulfill the aspirations of its citizens, but serve equally well as a beacon for all mankind. I do not believe in a superstate. I see no magic in tax dollars which are sent to Washington and then returned. I abhor the waste and incompetence of large-scale federal bureaucracies in this administration as well as in others. I do not favor state compulsion when voluntary individual effort can do the job and do it well. But I believe in a government which acts, which exercises its full powers and full responsibilities. Government is an art and a precious obligation; and when it has a job to do, I believe it should do it. And this requires not only great ends but that we propose concrete means of achieving them. Our responsibility is not discharged by announcement of virtuous ends. Our responsibility is to achieve these objectives with social invention, with political skill, and executive vigor. I believe for these reasons that liberalism is our best and only hope in the world today. For the liberal society is a free society, and it is at the same time and for that reason a strong society. Its strength is drawn from the will of free people committed to great ends and peacefully striving to meet them. Only liberalism, in short, can repair our national power, restore our national purpose, and liberate our national energies. What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”

Can’t wait for the so called, fairness doctrine? Never mind about that pesky 1st ammendment. You sound like a Stalinist. Don’t just shut us up, jail us for our views. I’m sure you can find something in that living constitution to make that happen. People like you are the reason I own guns. The 2nd ammendment was designed to protect us from a tyrannical government. Be it ours or a foreign invader. BTW Kennedy was for a strong military and low taxes on business. Something that is foreign to todays liberal. He wouldn’t recognize todays democrat party. Also, congrats on the successful theft of the MN Senste seat.
