Mother Teresa, for all the wonderful things she did for so many people in need, all through her life…but mostly for finally seeing the light, and talking about it.
I grew up in a family of strong women. My fathers mother came across the country in a covered wagon, my mother’s mother was also a pioneer. My mother worked two jobs during the depression and got a college education as well. I learned to be independent, caring, and a problem solver from these women. They are all gone now and I miss them, but I am proud to have had these wonderfull (including my aunts) people in my life.
Even though we have treated her with disrespect, Mother Nature still surrounds us with loving arms. She makes every attempt to keep on an even keel and treat each one of us kindly.
I had to vote for Mother Goose. I had those Childcraft books when I was young and those stories were like *magic* to me. To be able to fly away in one’s imagination is a great gift to give a child - and it continues to work for a lot of what ails you when you grow up and have to start putting away "childish things" and face harsh truths. A little fairy dust never hurt anybody. : )
"The children will not leave unless I do. I shall not leave unless their father does, and the King will not leave the country in any circumstances whatever.” — Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
My stepmother is a good person. Though she divorced my father years ago, she has remained a huge part of our lives. In fact, she just made a special trip here to see us. I love my mother and that kind of love is very deeply different and always will be. But I also love my stepmother in a way that is different from the way I love everyone else.
My mother-in-law was one wonderful woman who ALWAYS put the needs of her own mother, her husband and her three children before her own. Not in some kind of masochistic way, but out of a truly loving and giving nature. She told detailed family stories that gave a sense of family history to all of us. My own mother, if one can mention them, lived for 50 years as an insulin dependent diabetic who never let that diabilitating disease get in her way. She and my dad celebrated 59 years of marriage shortly before he died. She was "ill" longer than she was healthy during their marriage, but they forged on because of a deep commitment to each other and family. My maternal grandmother had a keen mind and great talent for sewing. My paternal grandmother came over from Ireland at 17. I’ve been pretty well blessed all the way around!

Mother Superior? Mother Jones? Mother of God (Mary?)? Mother of all Inventions?
Whatever one you chose, I’m just glad that as a mother I’m in such good company.
Thank you, boochan, for making me a mom.
Thank you for sharing this pearl of wisdom with us - Isis sounds awesome all around, but the beer and bread (my favorite carbs!) seal the deal for me!
Happy Mother’s Day!
