Barbie's Got a Tramp Stamp!

Midlife Crisis Barbie's got a super-classy Ken target, we mean, tattoo to help celebrate her 50th birthday!
By The Staff of wowOwow

Remember when Barbie wanted to be an astronaut? Well, neither do we, but we sure as heck don't remember the little-girl fashion icon jonesing for a truck-stop-ready tattoo known as a "tramp stamp" blazoned just above her booty, we mean butt, either.

But now, in honor of the 50th birthday celebration of the legendary doll, the powers that be at Mattel have seen fit to release a version of Barbie complete with a selection of tattoos, including this super subtle tramp stamp with the name of her long-time beau, Ken, right in the heart.

Who cares, right?

Well, what if we told you Barbie is most popular with girls in the two- to five-year-old set?

Those of us who remember playing with our Barbies well into our tween years will be interested to know that today's little girls tend to "age out" of the "Barbie years" much earlier than we did.  By five, she's chucked Barbie for either Bratz or, increasingly, an iPhone. To toy manufacturers, it's simply the process of age compression at work.

Tramp Stamp Barbie. Coming to a four-year-old near you!

Wouldn’t be coming to any 4-year old near me, just like no daughter of mine would be in a bikini until she was at least 14-15, not like the sexualized 3-years olds you see. I never had a doll as young, and my son never had guns until finally some aunt or someone bought him the whole cowboy thing for Halloween and I relented. I can’t stand tattoos on women, but what other women do is their business…not in my house.

Suzanne, I have to ask, so if you see a 3 year old in a bikini you feel they are "sexualized 3-years olds you see"…so me putting my 3 year old in a bikini to go to the beach I am sexualizing her?  Im sorry but I dont agree.

Yes, I also think that little girls dressed up in makeup etc for beauty shows like Jon Benet Ramsey is sexualizing them. To each their own…if I had a little girl…which I don’t we could consider makeup and bikinis at 14 depending on the girl’s maturity.

i have to disagree suzanne. it is not our childrens’ fault that america sees any skin and suddenly thinks it is wrong and sexualized.

a bikini and makeup do not mean we are sexualizing kids.

Suzanne I dont like the beauty shows b/c I dont like a lot of make up on me and especailly kids.  But little girls wearing bikinis isnt, for me as a parent, sexualizing them.  If I ever put my daughter in a beauty show it would be b/c of her natural beauty not what make up can do for her.

I am not a lover of tattoos either and would never want one but I suppose we have to move with the times even with this doll.   Just makes you wonder what they will do next with it.

caj p, I am not a fan of tattoes either!   Perhaps next will be "Pregnant Single Mom Barbie."

Deber…tatttoing "Ken" as her b___t cap…. she must be sure he’s her one and only!!!  I guess after 50 years with the same man, she is quite confident!!

Deber, I have 5 tattoos but they are all in places that I can cover up if I want to.  I dont have any on my arms but though about getting my name in Lebanese tattooed around my wrist (that is my ethnic background) but then got to thinking, that is permanent and it would be extremely hard to cover up if I wanted to.

I am not a fan of the full body tattoos or full backs, arms, leg tattoos but simple tattoos arent that bad.

I guess my point is this…all of my tattoos dont have my hubby’s name on them even though he is the ONE for me, I do have one with my daughters name on it under angel wings but she will always be my daughter.  I dont agree getting any person’s name tattooed on you, that is a little trashy for me.

Tattoes just aren’t for me.   If you like tattoes that is what matters….I’m crazy about makeup and skin products!

I am on the very same page, deber. Also, I only like ears pierced.

Green Tears….ear piercing is fine for me but I’m not getting anything else pierced….if you know what I mean!

Deber….now don’t you think a belly button ring would just become you???  only kidding my dear….I’m with you…tattoos and body piercing is out for me…..one set of diamond earrings in my ears is enough…I don’t need a big diamond in the nose or belly button, I’d much rather have a gold bracelet or necklace!!
