As a cat-mom of many years, I have succumbed to the temptation only once to dress up one of my feline pals. I had a big grey tabby, Miss Poodelle, and one Christmas, I thought it would be fun to have her wear a pair of felt reindeer antlers. I got the antlers, prepared my camera for the glamour shot, and then waited until she had dozed off. I snuck up on her and gently slipped the antlers on her head and aimed my camera. In a nano-second, Miss Poodelle awoke, turned into a roaring tiger, ripped the antlers off her head, grabbed them and ran like the wind out of the room, up the stairs, into the bathroom, and promptly buried the headgear in the litterbox. So much for that experiment! Some cats just want to be nekkid, and I’ve come to respect that.

We had a cat that loved to wear scarves around his neck. He used to preen in the mirror when he got a new one. Any other accessory would have met with bared fangs. Our other cats were never warm to the idea of cat clothes either. This is something that you might have to train a compliant kitten to accept before it realizes there is a choice.

Okay, any woman or man that would dress their cat up…..oh my Lord…I’m speechless.

I admit I had an adorable cat Nancy as a child that loved to be dressed in my doll clothes and go for walks in my carriage.  But never more when adulthood took over.  One that loved bandanas and walked on a leash yes that was my darling Meisha ~ who ruled the house.

My sister used to "ooh & ahhh" over pet costumes at Target at Halloween, & once, urged me to buy them for my posse.  I said I would under one condition: she dress the cats.

That was the end of that idea.

That is so silly. I have never dressed my former pets for halloween.

Don’t we have better things to do??

Oh, yeah.  I’m sure my cats would let me keep my arms if I tried to dress them up.  [sarcasm]

Is this for real? I can barely brush my 2 long haired cats, so could imagine sticking a wig on their heads…never happen. Besides, those cats look absolutely stupid. Why would anybody want to do that?

Tempted by a cat costume at Target, I bought one for Monte, my British Shorthair. When my son attempted to dress him, he took off in a rage that lasted for hours, and he seemed to know that I was behind this indignity.

As children, my sister and I used to dress our cat, Midnight, in doll clothes and wheel her around in our doll buggy. Dear Midnight, may she rest in peace.
