Candice Bergen: A Different Drink for Every Location

Candice Bergen
Of course, I am too huge for any of the good summer getaway cocktails, but if I could, I used to love a tall, frosty mug of Pimms No. 4 stuffed with cucumber skins and orange slices, to watch Wimbledon matches in June; or a thick, sweet Pina Colada — pretty much anywhere — was a fave. And in Rio, Caipirinhas hit the spot. Sangria always great. And what am I saying?! Bellinis!! At Harry’s Bar in Venice. The best. And Peches au Vin in the country in France. Ah God, it all takes me back. Oh! And Shandys in East Africa — beer and ginger beer, half and half, as a thirst quencher in an icy mug at the end of the afternoon.

You are such a delight, Ms. Bergen.  :)

You make all of those sound absolutely wonderful even though I don’t have any idea what most of those are.

I grew up in a minster’s home so we were never around alcoholic drinks growing up.  After I left home, I found out that I like to have a drink occasionally.  I also enjoy a thick rich decadently sweet Pina Colada.

My adult children tease me about my love for Long Island Ice Teas.  I have no idea what all is in those, but I do enjoy having those once in a while.

Oh yes! the Bellinis in Venice at Harry’s Bar - nothing could be better. Not much could be better than being in Venice. Would that I had the chance to do it all again. And yes to the Pina Coladas…fattening, but oh so good!.

I lived in Charleston, SC for many years and to get through the hot, hot summers we convened in the evenings to sip Pina Coladas on the porch. It is one of my favorite memories from there.

last time I had a drink was the nite before my younger sister got married.  I can’t handle booze of any kind.  We are a Bar called Micky Rats on Lake Erie, and my fav drink is strawberry daquris.  After three I was so bombed I couldn’t drive home.  that was 5 yrs ago.

Being an adult child of alcholics I know what booze can do to a person.  That’s why I don’t drink.

But I sure do like the fruity ones when I do have a drink.

Ms. Bergen your a delight, I’ve enjoyed all the movies and tv shows you’ve been in.  Thank you for giving women a place to talk without judgement. :)

When I was a child, during the summer months, my father kept a big container of frozen daiquiris in the freezer for last minute parties.  We, those of us underage and not tall enough to reach the freezer in the refrigerator, would stand on a chair to get to the jar.  We would find a spoon and spoon out the delightfully tasting ice.  I guess that’s why I’m an alcoholic now…I enjoyed too many daiquiris as a child.  They were very cooling on a hot summer day.   We never got caught.  Or at least, we didn’t get into trouble having our tasting parties in the afternoons.  I don’t know if my father ever wondered why the supply kept dwindling.  But he kept making jars of daiquiris.

My fav drink when I’m in the US is a good old shirley temple (cause I’m not old enough to drink in the states yet- I’m only 20) We don’t make ‘em proply here in Australia. Half the time when I ask for a shirley temple no one knows what the heck I’m talking about. When I’m back home in Sydney my fave drink is a Gin and tonic (has to be tanqueray!). As for cocktails… you really cant go passed a mai tai on the beach at the Pink Palace in Hawaii (or on the back of a catermaran looking back on Waikiki beach)… I once snuck one underage at 19. LOL  Xx
