Candice Bergen Borrows and Gives
Of course, I lend everything and my friends lend back. Especially in the old days. Ali MacGraw lent me a strapless Halston to wear to the Golden Globes in the days before we all had stylists, and when I could still fit into her stuff. I had a close friend who lent everything and then decided to charge, which kind of took the charm out of it. Like Cynthia, I do not lend money. I give it and don’t expect to see it back. And I lend my old NYC apartment, which is often empty till my daughter moves in. I just lend it to a few tight friends who always take great care of it.

I have the saying that if you lend money, don’t expect it back. If you cannot afford to not get it back, don’t lend it. I don’t lend very many things out because I never seem to get them back! One family member is especially bad that no one will lend her anything. Some how, it always ends up that someone "stole" it. Another family member had her playing a cd that she claims was stolen that was borrowed. What is the saying about lying? You can’t keep track of them once you start?
Hmmmm….yep, agree on thegiving versus lending money principle. That’s how we roll at our house!
That is rather bizarre that your friend went from lending to trying to rent items. I have had several friends who would offer to sell stuff to others that they could have simply given or lent. I find it odd that the same people who often offer to sell to others still ask to borrow from those same people!
