Carlie Beck Student Defends Tattling on Nude Playboy Coach (Video)

Adelle Geniella, 14, says she lost respect for Carlie Christine (aka Carlie Beck) when she discovered her cheerleading coach posed naked

A student who had a hand in the firing of Carlie Christine, the cheerleading coach caught posing nude for Playboy’s website, appeared on "The Today Show" Monday morning.

Adelle Geniella, 14, was joined by her parents Scott and Heather to discuss the controversial case.

Christine, which is the name she is identified by on the Playboy site but also goes by the last name Beck, was coaching students at Casa Roble High School in Orangeville, CA, when nude photographs of her ended up on the principal’s desk. The pictures were apparently delivered by students who got cut from her team, and some of the girls’ parents helped with the whistle-blowing.

Geniella said on "Today" she was captain of the cheerleading team but was barred from next year’s tryouts after having too many unexcused absences. When she discovered her coach had nude photographs of herself splayed on the Internet, she and her parents tattled to administrators. The Geniella family said they went to officials because they found Beck’s past to be unprofessional, and not for revenge.

"When I found out about it, I definitely lost respect," Adelle told Matt Lauer. "That’s not where my morals stand."

Carlie Beck, named Playboy’s "Cyber Girl of the Week" in February, told NBC that she feels that her nude modeling should not affect her employment at Casa Roble.

"I understand that morals are a subject of opinion, and although parents may have different opinions than I, they’re entitled to those," Beck said. "As far as [whether] the job can be based on someone’s opinions of morals, I don’t know that that is true."

Watch a clip below from NBC’s "Today" show for more on the case — and also hear from other students who believe that Beck should not have gotten fired for posing naked.

Here is my question. How did the student "accidentally" discovery this? Was she surfing  the net and come upon it? Who told her about it? Was this person also under age?

"I understand that morals are a subject of opinion …" Then she understands more than I do!

I wish the wow staff would refrain from describing Adelle’s actions of reporting her findings about Ms. Christine as “tattling” because that wasn’t the case and it makes it seem like the WOW staffers are teens themselves. Regardless of the true reasons why she and her parents informed the authorities of her teacher posing for Playboy, she was right to do so.

Sorry, no she was not right to do so. this kid and her parents did this for no other reason than revenge and i just so we are clear the school knew about the photos prior to the teacher being hired. and just what morals did the parents teach this kid when you do something wrong and your called on it dont worry just get even ?

I think that it could have been retaliation.  The teacher posed in the past.  I would need more details before condoning firing of the teacher.  In other words it was right to report but I am not sure of the outcome without further details.  How long ago was this done - how old was she at the time and is she still doing things of this nature ?

Hi Starry Nite:

I’ve been watching this story develop, so I have the answers to some of the questions posed. The coach (now former coach) is now 20 years old, and an alum of the school where she taught part-time. She was Cyber Girl of the Week at playboy.com in February (month before last). Also, Beck stated on the Today Show that Playboy has contacted her since this story broke, and that she will be posing for them again.

I hope that sheds some light on the situation.

Ok from what this little girl said, she was Captain, and b/c she had so many unexcused absenses she was banned from the team…what is wrong with that?  Why should she continue to be Captain if she cant even come to school?  Then to "find" nude pictures of your Coach and turn them in, yes it was revenge and it was tattling.  What else do you call it?

If this 14 year old was still on the squad I am sure she would still be coached by Ms. Christine…there would have never been an issue.

Christine is now out of a job in today’s economy…all b/c a 14 year old got her feelings hurt.

Maybe she spent her time during her "unexcused absenses" cruising the Net?

What I don’t get is why the parents allowed this… where were they during her "unexcused  absenses"?

I agree.  I feel awful for this once Coach.  You can BET if their daughter made the team these pictures would have never ended up on the Principal’s desk and you could even go so far to say if the Principal is a man, he already saw the pictures and kept the magazine at home.  :)

What kind of rancid fruit is cultivated in Orangeville, CA?  The kids, the parents, the school staff - one big mess of low behavior.

As a Cheer coach I think the school dropped the ball on their pre employment screening and while I agree that it is inappropriate behavor and should not be coaching.  The coach has a point if she is fired.  Actual teachers have protection from Unions…as an extra duty employee she does not and I would bet the teacher would have stayed on in most districts or at minimum been properly screened.

IF a former CAPTAIN is not selected for numerous unexcused absences by a coach..I suspect there is more to that story as well.

Only once have I cut an experienced squad member..and I would suspect the absences were just part of the story!  She should not been Captain  if she was breaking rules. She seems to also be experienced at manipulation.

I still maintain that had she made the squad..the pictures may have never surfaced unless she crossed her path later in the year.  It was not a matter of IF but WHEN she would have used them. She does seem to be enjoying her own new found celebrity as well.

Shame on the moms for aiding in the firing.  It should have been done in the off season if they were aware of it!

As I said in a former thread on this topic.  She has likely boosted the modeling career of the coach so she will likely need the coaching job in the future.

Curious though if they found a new coach….Also wonder if the rejected girls think they now will be accepted?

I just realized she is only14!!!  Now I’m not surprised.   She is only a Freshman so this gal was trying out for next years squad!  She may have been a Captain in Middle School….Welcome to High School Cheer and meddling moms!

SJ, this is really well written , and I agree completely.  The young lady , obviously, had her own axe to grind, and had been, I  suspect, disciplined appropriately.  As Captain, she should have been a role model.  If I, as a youngster, had gone home and told my mother  that I had been thrown out of a school activity for violating the rules. that woman  would not be  dead today.  She would still be alive and still be beating my ear about  the situation.   Additionally, and although I , absolutely,  support the right of a teacher to have a private life, I would like to think the school board could have found someone just as qualified who did not think that posing nude was a legitimate  strategy  to use in order to gain fame  and fortune.  While we, as teachers and coaches, may not wish to be role models, we are. We are not, merely, teaching Mathematics, English or Athletics.   Everything about our lives is scrutinized by our students in their search for their own values.

It’s more than difficult not to see the anger in the young girl and her mother towards Ms. Beck. Like it or not, "Playboy" happens to be  the last remaining classy so-called "skin" magazine.

What people do in their private lives, unless they’re molesting children, is just that, private. Morality is based on personal biases.

If you look at what our young people are exposed to daily in the media, what is passed around on Facebook, et al by teens, it is impossible not to assume that the student’s actions, and in turn her parent’s response to her teacher’s photos in Playboy, was nothing less than vindictiveness.
