Phil Spector Murder Trial | 03/25/2009 7:35 am

Did Music Producer Phil Spector Really Kill Lana Clarkson?

Everyone is wondering: "Did Phil Spector really kill Lana Clarkson?" Not according to the music producer’s attorney, who on Tuesday argued that forensic evidence proves that B-list Hollywood actress Clarkson killed herself at Spector’s Los Angeles mansion in 2003.

Spector, 69, has been charged with murdering Clarkson just hours after they met, and the resulting trial was full of downright weirdness. A jury in 2007 couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on his guilt, so a new trial was called. During closing arguments Tuesday, Spector’s lawyer says Clarkson shot herself in the mouth, and there’s no proof of Spector’s DNA anywhere on the weapon.

"The forensic evidence shows that Phillip Spector is innocent," said attorney Doron Weinberg. "Please don’t convict him … I am telling you he is innocent."

But prosecutors are painting the legendary producer — who has worked with music legends like The Beatles and Cher — as a "demonic maniac" who is "very dangerous" around women, particularly when he drinks.

"This case is about a man who has had a history of playing Russian roulette with the lives of women," Deputy District Attorney Truc Do told the jury. "Five women got the empty chamber. Lana got the sixth bullet. "

The jury’s still out on Spector’s guilt — or innocence. If convicted, he could spend anywhere from eight to 20 years in prison.

Yes, LL:

I agree with you and have for a long time. Its true, that lunatic had a habit of pointing guns at women and pulling the trigger. He really cleaned up that gun after he killed her (no DNA found on the weapon). It was his gun for Gods sake, there had to be his DNA on it. but as I said he cleaned it up. Not finding DNA was more suspicious then if they had found it.

Look at that psycho’s face, would any woman in her right mind go home with him. UGH!

Dominick Dunne spent so much time on this case and his Vanity Fair articles on it were so great, as are all of his. I am so sorry he can’t be here to cover this. Phil Spector is as guilty as hell…the creep!
