Yes, Yes, Yes……Totally miss "Boston Legal". We tape it every chance we get and even bought some of the DVD’s. It was the onlly intelligent series on tv!
I’m with you Phyllis, I tend to stick to PBS for the most part when the tv is on. My kids really only watch dvd moives/shows. We can watch tv (via rabbit ears) however don’t spend the money on cable.
i’m surpised that anyone watches live tv anymore. I won’t even watch live news. I record everything and skip the commercials. my husband will watch football live. but i don’t watch football lol!
I work at home so I usually have news or music on during the day, just to have some other voices besides mine … and the ones in my head. Rarely watch network prime time, getting worse every year, except for American idol, getting better every year - great music. I will give some of the new fall dramas a look-see but usually that lasts two weeks and I leave in disgust.
Right now I am addicted to Mad Men, waiting for Damages to start, and enjoying the Closer once in a while which I can get whenever I want on On Demand. I tape Jon Stewart & Charlie Rose every night.
I do love DVRing shows I might miss and skipping over the commercials… but there is a downside to all this. Have you all noticed how commercials are showing up everywhere else ? ( they are like a bad dream … they WILL be seen ! ) Especially on line, you can’t watch any video without getting a commercial first. It seems they have our number.
Only live TV I ever watch is on PBS if I forgot to record the show… they don’t have commercials (at least during the show). Commercial channel shows I miss I either set the TiVo to grab ‘em on rerun or find ‘em on the internet, or rent them from Netflix (much better picture & sound than TV!).
Ohhhh, John. I wish I had a TiVo again. The DVR that Cox gives you sucks bigtime. I’ve complained about it to the ‘suits’ at Cox, but they don’t know how to write proper code to make a people-friendly program. They’re clueless. I make do and save Dr. Who, House, Charlie, Mythbusters and poker. Actually, since it’s summer and in re-run season, I’ve started to reread ALL of Terry Pratchett’s books which I bought and read two or three years ago. I love his loony sense of humor and his wonderfully nutty characters.
There is so little worthwhile on TV, and so many commericals, that we rarely watch live anymore. Even shows that I would have hoped were intellectually stimulating - like forensic, nature, science, or history shows - are slow and dumbed down to the point that I’d rather just go read a book.
The biggest reason we maintain a cable account these days is for my husband’s sports enjoyment.
IF (and yes, it’s a big IF) I actually find the time to sit down and watch TV the only "live" stuff I watch anymore are really LIVE - sporting events or news. Otherwise I always use the DVR to watch any programs.
I can watch them when I want to and with my nifty little remote for my satellite TV I have a great "30 second" button that lets me fly past the ads - - finally, worthwhile technology!!! LOL
I am a little of both. Sports programs are watched live, with much shouting. {YEAH it is almost college football time} My "stories" are recorded. I am slightly addicted to The Weather Channel [because I live on the Gulf Coast] and Mike and Mike, and Sports Center all of which is watched live.
I have the TV on a lot of the time, but don’t watch it unless something attracts my attention. I seldom, if ever, watch network TV, as find most of it boring and time wasting. Sometimes I actually do click on the kazillion channels we get on cable & find it all a huge wasteland. I wouldn’t want to be without it though, as occasionally there are worthwhile things to watch. I do have to admit to doing exercises when Letterman is on, and a lot of the time that is "oh, good grief!!"
I stopped watching live TV in 1995…. For almost a decade, I didn’t watch anything at all. Now I watch a few shows via dvds (mythbusters, BS, Big Bang Theory, Dr. Who) and a few online (Colbert Report and the Daily Show). The few times I’ve turned the TV on in a hotel room or the like, the commericials have driven me to turn it off almost as quickly. Besides, I’m not interested in wading through reality tv shows to find something worth watching.

TiVo is your friend ;-)

And, Chris, you can shoot your computer onto your TV screens, quite easily, for a better view, and more relaxing position. ;-))
