Is This Dog Smiling? (Photos)

Here’s a sneak peek inside the adorable book Dog Joy: The Happiest Dogs in the Universe, which answers the question ‘Do dogs smile?’ by showcasing photographs of the most delightful doggies.

Photo Essay

Do dogs really smile? That was the question the editors at The Bark magazine set out to answer. They did so by asking readers to send them pictures of their happy puppies. Eight years later, they are showing us the pick of the litter in the picture book Dog Joy: The Happiest Dogs in the Universe. Courtesy of its publishers at Rodale Inc., here’s a special peek inside Dog Joy — and after you flip through the photo essay come back to this page and tell us: Do dogs really smile?

Yes, they smile! I know they do ;-)

I have had dogs at home since I was a kid and still have them. I have cats too. I think Dogs smile but I am not sure of Cats. I think Cats want  to keep the humans guessing. Dogs on the other hand are innocent and don’t hide any emotions.

My dog smiles when we tell him that we are taking him out for a ride in the car. You should see him with his face out of the window of the car, enjoying the breeze and with a lovely smile on his face. :-) I think many dogs do this.

Emotions aren’t limited to people. Animals of all kind show their happiness in various ways.

My GoldenDoodle, Brody, smiles all the time, especially when he wants to take a walk. He plants himself in front of me and flashes those pearly whites. And I can’t resist! He is the happiest dog in the world!

Those pictures make me smile, too!  Sure, dogs smile!  No matter what kind of day you may have had, they start grinning the minute you walk through the door.  True unconditional love.  A doggie smile can make the world right again.

Dogs do smile. Mine do. Give an abandoned or abused dog a loving home and a second chance at life, he will smile even more. God gave all his creatures emotions and smiles, but only a dog will show an unconditional love like no other. ;o).

Yes, they smile, mine just dug a hole in my yard large enough for a swimspa and when confronted they smiled as if to say "Hey Mom, look what I did for you!"  They are sooooo  lucky they are cute!

Darla, my minature fox terrier smiles all the time.  I give her plenty of walks and toys and she has her favorite treat everyday.  She is totally spoiled by my husband and me.

It is truly a dogs life for her.

Actually, this dog is getting ready to bark! Look at it’s eyes.

I can tell by my dog’s eyes what she is feeling better than the way she holds her mouth.  Because whether she’s hot and distressed or anticipating going somewhere, she holds her mouth the same way.

I definitely believe dogs and cats can smile, they talk to us when their hungry or want to go for a walk, if the water tank is empty.  And you can see it in their eyes the love they have for you when your just sitting together on the couch and petting them. They show love and need just like humans do.  I also beleive they go to heaven when they leave us.:)

My Siberian Husky, Lobo Noir, definitely smiles.  You can always tell a happy contented family friend/pet

My dog Chloe always smiled - as long as she lived.  That was for 12 years.  Two years ago because of extremely bad health my little Chloe went to "doggie world" and, I’m sure she is waiting for me at the "Rainbow Bridge".

All of the doggies on the photo essay above were smiling except for #7.  Maybe it wasn’t a good day for him/her!

During the 14 years that my family and I had, Kris Kringle, (small, brown French Poodle), we smiled, he smiled, and in fact, thinking about Kris Kringle, right now, makes me smile and touches my heart.

My mini schanuzer, Bailey, smiles all the time when I start baby-talking to him.

R.I.P to my dad’s puppy Rocky. He had Rocky for 3 short weeks but got really attached to him and now my dad is blue =(

Absolutely they smile!  I have a pit bull mix and she gets so excited to see people she knows that "bares her teeth" and wags her tail furiously!  My grown son actually thought she was going to bite him the first time she did it to him.  Even after we got her spayed when I was walking her out to the car she was "smiling" at everyone.  Her face just kind of "stretches" back and her eyes get smaller…you can tell she is smiling.  She is one happy dog!
