Management Consultant Turned Environmental Advocate Roz Savage Rows the Pacific Ocean for a Cause

Roz Savage used to have a "real" job, where she worked in an office as a management consultant, made money and had a little red sports car, a house and a husband. But something was missing. So she ditched all of that and, now, the over-40-year-old is rowing across the Pacific Ocean to raise awareness of global warming and other environmental issues. In 2006, Savage finished a solo 103-day row across the Atlantic Ocean. She has been recognized by the United Nations as a "climate hero."
"I certainly don’t see myself as any kind of hero, just a human being trying to be the best human she can be," Savage told CNN from the middle of the Pacific. "But at the same time I want to reach out to as many people as I can, because I wish I’d had more positive role models to show me how good life can be, and if I can inspire just a few people to change their lives for the better, I’ll feel I’ve lived a very blessed life."
Savage launched her current Pacific trip last year. She reached Waikiki in 99 days, becoming the first woman in history to row solo from California to Hawaii. On this trip, she’s blogging on her website about life on the open sea, plastic pollution, the North Pacific Garbage Patch and how people can reduce the amount of waste they generate.
"I try to offer my life as an example of what can be done when a very ordinary person decides to do something out of the ordinary," she told CNN.

I certainly admire her "row boat"( very nice!) as well as Roz. There are not many people who feel passionately about any cause, and even fewer act on that passion. Perhaps it is because we are so caught up in day to day survival. I love sailing but rarely go alone. If I do, it’s in the bay, not the open ocean. You never realize how very small you are until you are on the ocean alone or in the Grand Canyon.
A round of applause for Roz, a very brave and committed lady!
