On this your special day I envision your Mother holding you and looking down at your cute little face never realizing she had just brought into this WORLD a baby girl who would someday fill the hearts of Millions upon millions of people with joy and laughter.

I thank her and I especially thank you for the pleasure you have given to me and my family.

Laughter is the healer of Mankind………You are the best at that.

I wish for you many more years of a wonderful life that you so richly deserve.

I came back here to WOW expecting to find this, just as soon as I noticed today’s very special date - hey, did you know Lily was born on the same day WWII officially began? SOMEthing wonderful had to balance out all the chaos!

Lily, I have felt truly blessed the moment I discovered your (and Jane’s) brilliant work. Hopefully the next time I meet you (and I am still DYING to meet JANE, damn it!), I won’t be so speechless and loaded on Nyquil (had a virus back in February after the Ft. Worth show) and perhaps I will be able to articulate to you just how much you’ve helped me go from crawling and stumbling through the ugliness of life…to learning how to walk with my head high(er) and taking notice to the things that make life worth experiencing.

….and by the way, I’m only 25, yet your vibrance and ridiculously youthful appearance make ME feel 70!

By the way, I fell in love with her as the separated ‘Rose’ twins in the hilarious 80s comedy Big Business!

Well, Missy, I warned you, they wouldn’t just pretend it wasn’t so…  From Daddy falling out of his chair laughing at you tap-dancing barefoot, to Laugh-in "one-ringie dingie" when I was at the phone company (Long Distance Overseas, Operator 42, the Bell System) to that wonderful night in Palo Alto when you carved out your territory as including the entire world, to your waiting endlessly for me to carry that beetle up the long stairs at the Concord Pavilion, to your standing by your man Prior, to the great acting of the great words of Ms. Jane, to being a kind and generous person as well as a great artist, to the constant and continual humility that is so deeply touching in one so talented, for all the silly movies, and the way you are so many people and in the end most rooted and resolutely yourself, Miss, I thank you.  Thank you for the way, through the good times and the hard times how you have always been, and we can trust, always will be Lily Tomlin, national treasure, an alive and thriving candle in the wind, lighthouse, and laughing nymph who made us laugh in a relentless recognition of our ridiculous and common humanity.  Please, just totally enjoy this special day in celebration of all that you have been to so many of us.  Take it in, this love raining down on your head, fully and completely, and then, of course, fer chrissakes, don’t take any of it too seriously, and get back to work!  Baci baci, your pal Mugs

Ha! I knew you’d drop in for this, Mugs. I asked Lily to get Edith Ann back to business and we could hook up with the old gang in the sandbox. Hope you are well and thriving.
