Lily Tomlin, Happy Birthday!
Hi Lil,
Hope you have even a small percentage of the fun, joy and love you’ve brought to all of us. Your hearty laugh, sensitive soul, ability to say something profound and then contort with the flexibility of a kid, concern for animals and humans is special…particularly since you’re okay to be friendly with those of us who are still carnivores (though I’ve never eaten elephant).
We’re all grateful that you’re on the planet, however compromised it may be.
Each one of us is endowed with a quantity of laughs which we expend at appropriatly pleasant and happy times of our lives. You have certainly earned many of mine in the years that I have known you and you deserved every one of them. You have been one of my favorites for a long time and I want you to know I still have plenty of laughs in reserve just for you when you next time come to collect them.

I almost drove off the side of the road when I heard the reporter on NPR say that Miss Lilly is 70 (!!!) today. My, my 70 isn’t what is used to be. While many around the world will be marking the beginning of WWII, those of us here will be honoring the beginning of a wonderful life.
Miss Lilly I can not remember a time before I loved you. I remember watching Laugh-In as a girl & thinking how smart you must be to be able to play the little girl as well as the old lady (whom to my great pleasure my mom dressed up as one year for Halloween). Now that I am grown, I think that you are even smarter because of how you live your life. Thank you & happy birthday to someone who has always been my hero.
If you planted hope today In any hopeless heart. If someone’s burden was lighter, because you did your part.
If you made someone laugh out loud, and kept their tears at bay. Then today will be for you dear Lily, A very special day!.
May you have the happiest of Birthdays, & many Happy returns!
