Happy Birthday to wOw

March 8 is a big deal around these offices. First off, it’s International Women’s Day. And second, it’s when we mark our one-year birthday online.
We just finished our biggest month ever, with one million reader visits in February alone. From zero to a million in 12 months?
We couldn’t have done it without you.
A year ago, we were thrilled to see ourselves on our computer screens, but the most exciting part was to hear from a community we never met before. Please continue to send us your comments, your ideas, your submissions and your enthusiasm. We are hoping to make this coming year one in which we can join together to help each other through these tough economic times — with the independent, positive, wOw spirit we all share. Stay tuned.

Jeannot, you definitely found an angel here at WOW! It’s wonderful to read your story. I know from our other exchanges that your days have many challenges in them - amazing that a website became such an opportunity for you.
I am grateful to have seen Lesley Stahl on ‘Morning Joe’. WOW looked like a great place to be and I have found it enjoyable. My daughter who is all involved with Facebook says she is glad that I have WOW. She actually reads pieces here - the Barbie posts amused her.
It’s nice to see the WOW founders out sharing the site and inviting more women to take a look. I think it is wonderful to have a varied group of women exchanging ideas and (gasp!) differing opinions. It is possible to spend quality time and not always see ‘eye to eye’. Finding a common bond shared with a person who appeared to be your complete opposite can be quite profound - here’s to the hope of many of those moments here at WOW.
Happy Birthday, WOW, and Many Happy Returns!!
Thank you Diana, everything is just marvelous now. I am floating.
With help in Day care (which is a great place) I can take care of Bob for another 11 years.
WoW !!!
Good site… and very addictive. Never a dull day on WoW.
H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y wowOwow - For the most part, I have enjoyed my three months posting here on this site. I enjoy most of the topics. As is the case with most women, they will zero in on the topics most important to them. I have enjoyed the exchange of comments and getting to know posters by the way they contribute and by the way they "react." You can learn a lot about people by going back and rereading their responses. It fills in the blanks.
I wish you much success in year two and look forward to wishing you Happy Birthday again this time next year!!
I saw you Ladies on Charlie Rose and thought WOW what a great bunch of talent to put together a forum as such. I must say the past year had plenty to talk about! You kinda hit the ground running.
FANTASTIC!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!
Congratulations!! And thank you for having a forum for women that allows thoughtful & intelligent conversations. I have learned much from reading perspectives from different points of view.
Happy Anniversary!!!
The site has come leaps and bounds in one year, in terms of layout and look. But it’s slipped in recent months in terms of the incessant back-biting. I’m glad that Liz is posting regularly, but contributions from other stars on the masthead are few and far between at times.
The video interviews that you did last summer were good, and brought life to the site. That, and the video footage of lectures were fantastic. Who can forget the one by the woman astronomer? Or the Lecture of a Lifetime stuff. Video is what seems to be in short supply.
I wish they would run some TED lectures, but would that be a copyright issue?
Glad I met you over here, James. It’s led to some great discussions.
James, some of the lectures on TED have enriched my life in the most wonderful ways, and have given me new ideas and approaches to think about. Suzanne got me hooked when I was just getting acquainted with her on this site. I like to watch at least one every Saturday. Have you ever watched them? And, in your line of work, what inspiration they would give you for broadcast ideas…http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/jose_abreu_on_kids_transformed_by_music.htm
TED constantly restores my faith in our ability to create, love and inspire…I would love to see wow think along similar lines, if you know what I mean…
Hi Diana, et al ~
I’ve sent "TED" to many friends in music over the past months. I had to chuckle at Abreu’s link because it reminded me of the First Youth Competetition I set up (1981), and the pangs that went with it, as I had brought in the best of the best as Judges … when the youngsters trickled in, my heart did a jig. ;-)
It’s been a nice year here, hasn’t it!
Diana, here is more inforamtion on that area … it’s an unbelievable locale - police and nation cannot get in there to solve the problems: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favela
Another fantastic program in Brazil (of course):
