Happy Birthday to wOw

It’s our one-year anniversary!

March 8 is a big deal around these offices. First off, it’s International Women’s Day. And second, it’s when we mark our one-year birthday online.

We just finished our biggest month ever, with one million reader visits in February alone. From zero to a million in 12 months?

We couldn’t have done it without you.

A year ago, we were thrilled to see ourselves on our computer screens, but the most exciting part was to hear from a community we never met before. Please continue to send us your comments, your ideas, your submissions and your enthusiasm. We are hoping to make this coming year one in which we can join together to help each other through these tough economic times — with the independent, positive, wOw spirit we all share. Stay tuned.

Thanks, but I like yours.  Just like your calligraphy the form of your paragraphs are beautiful.  All the quotes and surprises are a mastery of typing.

Happy Birthday again WowOwow….I wish I would have had you a few years ago when my daughter and son in law were in Iraq….I think it would have helped me also, like Frannie.  Women can be so caring and so emotional at the same time, but we do all understand one another when push comes to shove….it’s what makes our gender one of the best ever!!!  All the women here are great posters and very passionate, no matter if we are agreeing or disagreeing….I respect everyone’s opinion and we do need each other to keep our voice out there!  We keep growing stronger everyday.  I would have loved to have our mothers and grandmothers have a site like this to come to and share their thoughts….they did it over coffee with their neighbors and best friends, but to meet so many women in a way such as this is the best!!!  Thank you for being a friend!!  Here’s to another great year!!!  I applaud you all!

My first post here was May 3, 2008. Many positive and negative experiences later, I’m still here and grateful that this site was here during the campaign and election and grateful for the opportunity to get to ‘know’ many very nice and interesting people through this site. One thing I remember at the beginning was that most of the time the discussion was an intelligent exchange of ideas and opinions. But that was back when wowOwow was promoting their site on Charlie Rose. Lately the atmosphere and the level of discourse has changed dramatically. Even the articles have become more to do with sensation and less to do with substance. I hope it is just a stage wowOwow is going through, otherwise I hate to think what it will be like on anniversary number 2.

DeB, you make a very good point, the bunch of us that came in after Charlie Rose are different than the bunch that came in after Drudge …. hmmmm, why do you think that is ?

Happy w0w Birthday , it’s been a pleasure ♡

I thought you were in here long before me DeBúrca obj. In fact, I always looked for you as a standard bearer amongst the opinions I would study before making my postings. (To be sure, I checked it out and find that they let me in here March 14, 2008. (just three days before St. Patrick’s). Very often I agreed with your thinking on many subjects. Not always, in fact, once you scolded me. The point is, I guess, that again I agree with your evaluation of the WOW site as it appears to-day. Unfortunately there seems to be a group bent on spoiling any form of intelligent exchanges, on opinions or ideas expressed by the posters. I remember Belinda pointing out this growing tendency a couple of months ago. At that time, I myself felt that I should simply abandon the aggravation and quit visiting the site. Apparently she decided to stay, so have I, and I hope you aren’t harboring any thoughts about leaving, because if you do, a lot of us “oldies” will be very disappointed. I was glad to see your expression recognizing the WOW Anniversary. I wondered if it would arrive. PS - If I may ask, ( I think others would also like to know) - what does “obj” stand for? - am I out of line here? I sure hope not because I would never want to offend you.

obj?  Well, you have to say it with one of those over the top fake Irish accents… "Oh BeJaysus!"

I guess it is up to us to keep the flame going on the discourse.  I am glad you are here.
