If you had to choose a theme song for your life, which would it be?

Joan Ganz Cooney's Real and Dream Theme Songs

I’ve half-kiddingly said that my epitaph ought to be "I Did It Their Way." What I’ve meant is that my generation of women was brought up to worry about what others might think of anything they did. If I had it to do again I’d try to live so that my theme song would be "Born Free."

Tim McGraw "My Next Thirty Years", minus the part about raising another family - don’t think I would have the energy to go around that roller coaster again! lol

Gloria Gaynor’s "I Will Survive" may have been written about a lost love and recovery from it. However, I feel it’s a flagship song for all women who have survived in this world trying to conquer equality in the workplace, home, love, gender abuse, and health issues, as well as life’s ups and downs in general.  Women are strong and sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that we are and can survive ANYTHING by saying to those negatives in our lives to "go on. go; walk out the door; turn around now; you’re not welcome anymore."  It’s my flagship song for just all those reasons.  I will survive!

"The Long And Winding Road" because it always leads me back… to where I’m supposed to be.

MY WAY — the way Sinatra sings it, of course — but particulary this section that makes me so nostalgic:

I’ve lived a life that’s full -
I’ve travelled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

The way I have looked at it, I have tried my best to make the most of every moment, have more experiences that - looking back - I can hardly believe.  But early on, I wanted to get to all the most remote places on earth and come back to tell the tale after some touch-and-go experiences, and I truly exalt that I have had the life I dreamed of… and I did it MY WAY.  No wonder I smile so much!!   What a life!!

Simple. Rise by Herb Alpert. No words only a beat and melody which illustrates exactly how I tend to move through life.

I’ve had a lot of obstacles in life with marriage, health and other things, so I think "Long Road Home" fits me. Life’s not always fair and sometimes it takes longer to get "home" to a comfortable place.

"Time For a Cool Change" by the Little River Band. It’s been "my" song since first hearing it as a pre-teen in the late ’70s. Curious as to how I knew that at such an age.

"Bitch" by Meredith Brooks - "I’m a bitch i’m a lover i’m a child i’m a mother i’m a sinner i’m a saint I DO NOT FEEL ASHAMED"

I love that song! told my husband when we got married i was going to walk down the aisle to it. he didn’t even bat an eye! ended up we had no aisle and no music. But it’s definitely my theme song.

Poor Butterfly. An everlasting beauty of a song. Written in 1916 by Raymond Hubbell, with lyrics by John Golden. I have loved it all my life. It has always meant so much to me.

"The Glory of Love"  The words fit marriage to a tee.  "You’ve got to give a little, take a little", "laugh a little, cry a little", "win a little, lose a little and even sing the blues a little".  My memoir about baseball begins with "This is the story and the glory of my life as the wife of a professional baseball player"; I continue on to say that I belted out the National Anthem more than I sang the blues.  Every marriage is full of ups and downs and it’s our ability to focus on the glory of the relationship rather than the problems that makes life a great adventure. (Major League Bride: An Inside Look at Life Outside the Ballpark, www.mcfarlandpub.com)
