New York Yankee pitcher Joba Chamberlain’s mom is causing him a bit of a headache.

Jacqueline Standley, 44, was arrested over the weekend in their home state of Nebraska for allegedly selling methamphetamine to an undercover cop out of her house, reports the New York Post. She’s still in jail in Lincoln, NB, and faces one to 50 years in prison if convicted. She was hospitalized for three weeks in 2003 after mixing meth, marijuana and alcohol. Chamberlain, 23, found himself in the same Lincoln courtroom as his mother last fall after he was busted for drunk driving. He was sentenced last month to nine months probation after pleading guilty to DUI

The Lincoln Journal Star wrote an in-depth story about Standley last September. The woman turned her apartment into a shrine to her son, who she gave to his father to raise when he was younger because she had problems with drugs and depression. “No. I wasn’t the greatest mother,” she told the Journal Star. “But in the bad choices I made, I in turn made good choices. And one was for them to be with their dad a lot.”

The news about Standley is just more bad karma for the Yankees, especially with the forthcoming book about Alex Rodriguez and his alleged steroid use, relationship with Madonna, and other aspects of the baseball star’s life. It’s also a lot for the 23-year-old Chamberlain to deal with, writes Kevin Kernan of the New York Post, particularly when he’s scheduled to take the mound tonight in the big game against the Boston Rod Sox at Yankee Stadium. He will need all the support he can get.

Such a slow news day that journalist need to go there.  This young man was raised by his father who is handicapped then goes on to make something of himself.  Is there  any compassion anymore or do the bottom feeder continue to lurk in the shadows for a good story. Famous people are human as well give the kid a break

Hopefully the support of his father and teammates will pull Joba through what life gives him. He’s young and resilient.
