Jane Wagner, a Southern Gothic Girl

Jane Wagner
I feel closer to the Southern Gothic tradition more than anything; although, I guess that’s more of a mental condition than a tradition.

Kathryn Cooper
A very talented souther writer from East Tennessee once described our family as ecentric and Southern Gothic.  I always found it amusing that the only family member who questioned that description was our Aunt Melcy who stored her silverware in baggies in the refrigerator.

Yes, Jane, indeed.  My dad was southern Gothic, and, as Kathryn has so kindly pointed out, hadn’t a clue of it.  In fact, he grew up with his family in a victorian house in a cemetery in Kentucky, rent for which was paid by their maintaining the grounds.  I suspect, since you are aware of your proclivities in the tradition, you have transcended it.  I might be mistaken.  It wouldn’t be the first time.  xo, mp

Me too, Miss Jane.  Me too.  I suppose that is partly why I love the works of Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Flannery O’Connor, Harper Lee, and Truman Capote!!  Can’t forget Capote.

As to it possibly being more of a mental condition … yeah, you got that right.

Isn’t a tradition, just a mental condition, passed along?

Deni, Mugsy, Serena! Great to see you women here!

Kathyrn- ROFL! I don’t know you but that was so funny to this sothern gal. I spent many an hour polishing silver and putting it in little soft baggies. I earned 25 cents a piece.

Love you Jane…let’s hear from you more often will ya?

Well, this is just my humble opinion—even though no one asked for it—but I personally would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT if Ms. Jane got herself set up on Facebook.  (Hint, hint)
