Joan Ganz Cooney: Polanski Should Just Face It

Joan Ganz Cooney
I wish he’d come to the States and accept whatever punishment was meted out, do time if that is what was decided and get this behind him and us.

BRAVA! At last a rational and intelligent post.  How dare some of the posters on this site use his age for sympathy.  He became 75 in freedom because he left the US and avoided our laws and system of punishment.  Using some of the arguments certain posters have - let’s let all the rapists out of prison if they have some talent or are older.

If you desire the freedoms and opportunities of America, you must also abide by our laws.  Raping a child is a crime and prison time is the sentence.

Thank you Joan!

I am so glad to read your response to this question.

I had a debate with someone on this issue last week who said "But he’s 75 and has built a life for himself over the years…after-all what he did was a long time ago"

My response was, but he committed a crime and never paid a price for it. He plea-bargained the charge down and was suppose to serve minimal time but left the country. Drugging and sodomizing a 13 year old was a crime (and some might argue a mortal sin) 34 years ago just as it is today.

The only thing that has changed is time. Now time has caught up with him and so too should his punishment.

Thank you for this.  It is pretty basic.  I am so shocked that there are people who are actually defending this man.  Whether or not you believe he is a great artist (I personally don’t), he broke the law, and ADMITTED that he did so.  He actually plead guilty to a lesser charge so that he could get out of some really hard time.  He was told to go back and serve 45 more days as punishment for rape.  The fact that the person who was raped was 13 is clouding the facts.  People are under the impression that she was willing, and oh well she was 13.  Not true, she actually kept saying NO the entire time, and yet he continued to rape her.  And he admits that he did this!

I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.  Yes, he’s old.  Yes, he’s generally agreed to be talented.  Big deal.  If anything, he should serve more time for having fled his lawful sentence.

She was 13-he gave her drugs/alcohol and had anal sex with her.

Yes he needs to come home and pay the price.

I am also pissed at her obvious stage mother who would leave her alone with this creep at Jack Niclesons home—

would you leave your 13 year old there?

Mr Polanski is very talented at what he does-no doubt about it—and he has had his share of sufferring with his wifes and babies murder

BUT

If that were my Brother/Son/Father they would already be in jail—money talks!

Like I said on Candice’s page, the old saying"You do to crime, you do the time." I say he should get jail time and pay for what he did to that woman in monetary means also.

It is up to the Judge, and God. I would put an ankle bracelet on him so he cannot go anywhere for the rest of his life. Since he has been living it up all these years.

In those days, he was involved with the High Priest Anton LaVey who founded The Church of Satan in 1966 the day he declared God Dead. When Polanski made Rosemary’s Baby he used LaVey as the Devil, but his name was not in the credits, and, or he was angry that he made public secret rituals only satanist was supposed to know about.  Well they had a falling out to the worst degree. LaVey cursed him, and said he would pay ten fold. LaVey was also involved with the Manson girl Sadie (susan atkins) who was a topless dancer, putting her in a movie which she played a vampire with pictures showing her licking a bloody knife which later Susan Atkins admitted in court that she licked the bloody knife that killed poor pregnant Sharon Tate. The book I got that from is Sunrise Over Santa Susana, a mind blowing brand new book by Adam Gorightly which I am still reading. It is very disturbing and he names big stars also involved in the whole scene.

I think he should wear an ankle bracelet for back then it was usual for drugs and perverted sex parties were the norm. Our morals were not what they are now. We got better I think. Plus he did pay emotionally. Only i don’t know if he is still into the dark side of movies. Rosemary’s baby was the first of movies that delved into rituals and devil worship, and if you remember she had the devils child in that movie.

Have any of you ever been a juror on a child rape trial? I have and I will never forget the haunted, defeated look on the victim’s face. I had quite a few bad dreams just HEARING the details. I cannot imagine living with it day in and day out for the rest of your life. Put this slime in jail NOW.

Do the time! We tell our children and others, "You do the crime; you do the time!" Polanski is a slime-ball hiding in sheep’s clothing, who out-smarted the "justice system" way too long. Now, it’s time to sit in a jail cell for the crime he committed!  Society owes it to him to put him there and definitely owes it to his victim and all victims of these detestable crimes.  Too many of these criminals avoid prosecution because of their "so-called sheep’s clothing" while the victims are left to deal with the mental, physical, and emotional scars.  Pedophiles need to KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THEY WILL BE PUNISHED FOR THEIR CRIMES REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY ARE OR HOW LONG AGO THEY DID THESE CRIMES AGAINST ANYONE’S CHILD

He raped a 13 year old child……I don’t care if he is 75 or 35 ——- he needs to complete his punishment for the crime he committed.  He should have done it years ago.
