Congrats on 40 yrs. Like you…I am about to be 40.
I was a cast member on the show for a number of yrs…in the old school days when my aunt Amy was Stage mgr.
I enjoyed my time on the show immensely.
It lead to my 2 cd releases and now some yrs post performing with my bands…I have a 9 yr old son and I am post masters some yrs and use my experience as a performer to help people as a social worker. Believe me it all goes hand in hand.
happy 40 yrs and thank you.
Best,

Thanks for the memories! I love Sesame Street, still the best children’s program (and for us big people) ever; innovative, clever, imaginative, outstanding in its field. How lucky our children and grandchildren have been to reap this glorious harvest.
Hey, what’s Kerm’s photo doing up there? Ha!
My first daughter was born in 1970. We, she and I, began watching Sesame Street when she was about 18 months old. I thought she was old enough to enjoy it in my company. By the time my youngest daughter was 2 years old, a decade later, taking time to view Sesame Street with my children was just somthing that was done every day, except Sundays. But what Sesame street brings to mind is an incident that occurred in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979.
I was standing in a rather slow long line at the bank. By my side I had my 3 year old and in my arms I had my 18 month old daughter. People were quiet, the tellers were busy because it was close to noon. As the line moved closer I heard a teller humming a familar tune. When it was finally my turn to approach a teller I had the good fortune to be approaching the humming teller. After an quick exchange of pleasantries I asked her: ‘Do you know what song you are humming?’ She replied she could not think of what it was but the tune would not leave her brain. I then informed her it was Rubber Ducky. It was so oddly funny because we both laughed and then at the same time, as if in some movie script, we both began singing Rubber Ducky. Right there in a crowded bank we sang Rubber Ducky all the way through! When we had finished there was applause and then both of us became a bit pink with embaressment. In the car, my 3 year old son told me I was a movie star now.
Thanks for the memory all over again!
Joan,
Of all the authors, films, shows and producers in this world, you have touched and left a legacy which has yet to be matched! Thank you for bringing Sesame Street into all our lives.
When my beautiful son was a baby I got him a Big Bird, when he was 2 I got him the Bed Time Big Bird, it came with tapes and books, so the child could read along with the Talking Big Bird.
Thanks to Sesame Street both my kids were counting before 4, reading by 4, and new how to speak spanish to some extent.
When my Son was small I started buying him the cast iron character cars and the carry case, he used them until he was about 9 (transformers came along), well when he and his wife moved into their first home my house warming gift was his Big Bird and his set of cars.
A few days after that he called to tell me how much those cars were worth, I had no idea when I bought them they’d be a collectors item 25 years later.
I knew my children were learning watching Sesame Street and I allowed them to watch it all they wanted.
Thanks for the memories Joan and Sesame Street. :)
