In response to: Where is your favorite off-the-beaten-track destination?

The Market Diner at 11th Avenue and 43rd Street, an expansive New Jersey-type diner with parking spots, a patio (alas too near the traffic), great staff, good food, orange booths. It conveys a slower, happier feeling than is usually found in NYC diners and is full of hard hats, cops, nurses and tourists. Heaven.
