Judith Martin: 'Leadership Was Not for Me'
In response to: What is the most important lesson in leadership you have ever learned? What were the circumstances?
The only leadership job I’ve ever had was as head copy girl in the women’s section of The Washington Post. I believed and sympathized with every personal problem my little staff told me, as a result of which I had to do all the work myself. The lesson I learned was that leadership was not for me.

We are fed the idea that if you are not a leader, you are not successful. How wonderful it is to see a successful woman state that leadership is not for her. I hope our sisters and daughters read or learn this as it is such an invaluable lesson.
