'Julie & Julia': Photos From the Hit Movie

Photo Essay

Meryl Streep is Julia Child and Amy Adams is Julie Powell in writer-director Nora Ephron’s adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Powell’s Julie & Julia and My Life in France, by Julia Child with Alex Prud’homme. Based on two true stories, “Julie & Julia” intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends … until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING. This is what film is all about. This is great story telling. This is about passion. This is about love. This is about life. This is inspiring.

I own an acting and writing school (www.schoolcreative.com) I will use this film to show my students what they can do. WHAT AN INSPIRATION. What joy. My friend Bobby (who is a really great Broadway Asia director and is doing a show with Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan in case anyone wants to go!) loved it and floated home laughing and sighing after watching it. I still feel so inspired.

Havent seen the movie yet but I remember the real Julia Childs.  She was a delight to watch and totally fearless.  What a hoot.

Saw the movie a few days ago and it was adorable, really enjoyed it!!! Meryl Streep as Julia was spot on…….for me any movie that Meryl Streep is in is a winner! Her ability to capture an individual’s nuances of speech (accents, etc.) is perfection. This is a great "chick flick" although my husband saw it with me and he was amazed at how much he really enjoyed it!!

My ten year old son took me to this movie for my birthday.  I love to cook and he’s always telling me I should be on Food Network (like that will happen).  Given the PG-13 rating, I knew there would be some adult content or language, but knew my son would probably roll his eyes and shrug it off.  Yes, there were a couple of uncomfortable moments, but he handled it well and loved the movie as much as I did.  The theater was full and the movie received wild applause at the end.

I saw this great film opening weekend and loved it.  I’m a huge Meryl fan.  Now I know I was watching Meryl, but I don’t think I ever saw Meryl!  I know she was there, but the only person I saw on the screen was Julia Child.  Meryl was that good.  Amy was wonderful, as well.  I loved this movie and will probably see it again….I know I will buy it, when it becomes available!

Loved, loved, loved this movie!  Wanted to come home and cook something!  Sad to know that Julia Childs never did appreciate the real Julie’s efforts or see them as a tribute to her.  Nonetheless, would highly recommend this as a terrific night at the theater.

Fun afternoon at the movies…Streep is amazing as usual.

However, Nora couldn’t resist adding her left leaning politics into the story…that was a distraction at a few points. Well, no…more than a distraction really…more like annoying.

The audience is to believe that the Rep. party, "doesn’t like people like us" (observation from Julia’s husband)…ok Nora…you just HAD to demonize the right…It would have been much more interesting to find out, (as Nancy pointed out in above post) why Julia reacted as she did to Julie…

Maybe Julia "didn’t like people like her"????

Lucky for you Nora…Streep came through….again.

I saw the movie this past weekend and loved it, especially the parts with Meryl Streep - I kept asking throughout the movie, "How did they make her look so tall?"  Julia was over 6’ tall - Meryl is only 5’ 6" tall yet she towered over everyone.  I know how they made her bulky, but how did they make her tall?  Her acting was remarkable - she had Julia’s voice down pat - it warbled just like Julia’s.  I admire Meryl enormously.  Every movie she’s in, she does a bang up job.  Beautiful woman.  Some of the love scenes with her husband were lovely and touching.  They were apparently made for each other.

A word to the wise, don’t go to the movie hungry.  Other than aspic, the dishes were delicious looking.
