Lesley Stahl Names Her Favorite Female Newsers

Lesley Stahl
It’s more and more difficult for anyone in the TV news business to make a name for herself (or himself) because audiences are shriveling, and there are so many choices of outlets (cable and otherwise). When I started at CBS News, there were only three. Still, there seem to be as many impressive young women on the air as men … which warms the heart! I’m a big fan of Mika Brzezinski on "Morning Joe." She’s become one of the "guys" on hard news subjects. I’m impressed with Maria Bartiromo and Erin Burnett at CNBC, and Kimberly Dozier at CBS. ‘Course, I still love the been-around-for-a-while types – like Diane Sawyer!

I am so disappointed in Mika.  I simply can’t stand watching her anymore.  She just sits there and pretends not to be able to get a word into the conversation.  Even my husband has quit watching Morning Joe because he feels she does not serve women well.  Wow!

Mika is known for slaking her thirst on Joe’s knee.  It is revolting, literally and figuratively.  It is time to stop the sniveling and lap dancing in the media.

Dear Lesley - I respect you as a journalist more than I can say and you know more about this subject than I do but —- Mika is offensive and the whole Nancy Reagan thing with Joe is too much for me in the morning.  Ms Amanpour and Ms. Maddow are the best for me.

Oh Leslie, I’m so, so disappointed in you. You give a shout out to that lap dog Mika and totally ignore the most intelligent (and educated) woman in TV Journalism today? I am speaking of Rachel Maddow, a Rhodes scholarship recipient. She does all of the homework that most others just "claim" to know, but she presents the facts to back up her statements. And what about Rita Braver? Another super smart lady that knows the law. She has a degree in political science, as well as being married to a lawyer.Do you really wonder why we have become disillusioned with the MSM? Most are so out of touch but the two ladies I mentioned are the reason I haven’t given up. March on ladies. As for Mika, she can take a hike on the Appalachian Trail and take Morning Joe along, as neither will be missed by me, or apparently several others.

Wrong and wrong.  Maddow has no Rhodes, but rather the much easier Fulbright.  And since when do degrees foretell any particular knowledge or acumen? (And in Maddow’s case, she makes it as a commentator; journalist she is not, as she focues mainly on her pet issues, not the global or national news budget; you would think DADT is the top problem in this country. And you even think being married to a lawyer means something?  How very wrong and old fashioned.  As for M and J, yes, let them make out or whatever mutually pleases them in the woods.  Who cares?    And, like the two of them being missed, it probably pertains to many of the commenters here, including me.
