Lily Tomlin's Ernestine Takes on Sarah Palin and Michael Vick in Animal Rights Message (Video)
‘Piper, put your mother on the phone!’ says Lily Tomlin in her latest animal-rights video.
Always ready to lend a helping hand, I dropped by at the Hollywood office of The Humane Society of the United States to shoot a video to be shown at the 23rd Genesis Awards Saturday, March 28. True to form, I did not hold back on letting my true feelings be known about my concerns for animals and the miserable treatment they so often receive at the hands of humans. Don’t get me started. Click here to find out how everyone from Sarah Palin and Mayor Villaraigosa to Michael Vick and Neal Cavuto gets the rough end of my tongue.

That was excellent Ernestine! Thank you so much for your voice for animals. I’m totally with you.
It is so wonderful here along the Monterey Bay because all of the animals are protected. All along on the long beach walk from Spanish Bay through Asilomar andPacific Grove to the old Spanish Colonial Sq in Monterey, there are signs not to disturb, touch, feed any animals, or any plant life. Enormous Canadian Geese, deer, seals, otters, seagulls, pelicans are protected. They go about their business fairly unafraid of people. It really is a little like Camelot…and how it should be everywhere.
In town there is a very nice animal rescue place. The dogs and cats receive wonderful treatment and are cared for until they are placed in a solid adoption. We can’t do everything, but we all can do something. Because my brother was most interested in animal rescue and care, I decided the best thing for me to do in his memory is to raise funds for animal rescue.
Always great to see you, Ernestine!
Ernestine,
You get ‘em, girl!
Now THIS is what I’m talking about, wOwOwOw!
More please. :)
Ernestine has been my HEROINE since Laugh-In (40? years?!!) I have taken in Border Collie rescues for the last twenty years and this subject is incredibly close to my heart…
THANK you Lily, for giving Ernestine a voice and a cause … I love you!!
VICKS & PALIN—-pitbulls!
(Look up the BESTFRIENDS.COM website for progress report on the pitbulls rescued from Vick´s death trap dog fighting ring. They are now called the VICKTORY DOGS)
I have a lovely pitbull and I hate him being compared to Palin. My pitbull, Lucky, is much more articlate and almost never LIES.
Sarah Palin-Tonya Harding 2012! (god forbid!!)
I agree with you. I would just like to add that Phyliss Diller really was one of (if not THE) first women comedians to do stand up. I agree that Joan Rivers isn’t given her due often enough (unusually, I think because she drives some people crazy, which in a way is her job). I have been a fan of Ms. Diller’s forever & still think that she is great. A few years ago, I read her biography and it was very good.
Also, being from Ohio - I gotta love Phylis and Jonathan Winters. Ms. Diller is from the Lima area & Mr. Winters grew up less than a mile from where I grew up in a suburb of Dayton (of course, not at the same time - I’m not THAT old.)
Phyllis,
I was born in Lima, but never lived there. My mom is from Celina & they have nasty water. My dad’s folk’s lived in Wapakoneta (home of Neil Armstrong) & their water is SOOOOgood. Since my dad died young & mom’s relatives had more kids - we would spend much of the day in Celina. Stop in Wapak & all I would want to do for the first half hour was drink & drink. Dad’s family also had aluminum glasses that my uncles would drink milk & milkshakes out of (and in the 60’s and early 70’s Wapak still had milk men) - I couldn’t believe that a guy would come to their house & leave the bestmilk in the world in their fridge every week day. Of course with 3-4 teenage boys they went through alot of milk.
Jonathan Winters grandparents owned a bank - Winters Bank (that before the mergers started) was a big bank in Dayton. They had an estate south of town. One wing of the estate burnt before my time. As a kid, I always wondered why someone would build a lop-sided mansion. In high school, I found out that friends of mine lived on what was once part of the Winters property. They found a clubhouse of some kind with Jonathan’s name on it. Even in high school - I thought that he was hugely funny. I have always thought that Billy Crystal & especially Robin Williams owe a lot to J.W.
Another funny guy that was from Dayton is Gordon Jump - from WKRP in Cincinnati & those silly washer commercials. Actually, George Carlin spent a lot of time here also. His wife was from here - maybe wife number 1.
Oh my, I am boring you all with Ohio triva. I went to Wisconsin once to visit a friend. I picked up the train in Lima & rode it to Milkwakee. She lived in Ripon (were Harrison Ford went college) & we spent a couple of days in Madison. I have always wanted to go back.
