WOW BIRTHDAYS | 09/03/2009 8:45 am

Lily's Warmest Thank You

Lily Tomlin

Dear wOw Womyn and a Few of you Gents:

Yesterday, on my birthday, I was frantically traveling from Boston trying to get home before my birthday ended so I could spend part of it with my precious Jane. When I got in, Jane had opened the wOw birthday page on my desktop so I’d see it right away. I was overwhelmed. Thank you, all of you, for the loving, kind, generous greetings you sent to me. Knowing that so many of you connect with Jane and me and all those characters and the things they say and do is such a sweet validation of all of us being Art. YOUR part in it is so much grander than mine that I’ll have to speak through Trudy as Emcye did:

"Delusions of grandeur make me feel a lot better about myself."

With love and thanks to all of you,

Lily

Lily, Over the years you have made me laugh, cry (from laughing) and brought plain old fashion joy into my life.  I wish to heaven they’d put Laugh In on Nick at Nite or another station so we could relive all those great memories.  I’ve worn out one VHS and two DVD’s of 9 to 5, I just love that movie, you were so good in it.  I can’t remember the name of the one with Ms. Midler but I’ve worn that one out too.  I loved it when you’d do the snake thing when you were trying to ward off the evil.  I am a retired military vet (female), now living in the south and your accent is dead on.   Thank you for being you and making the world a Funnier place to live in (that’s a good thing, lol).  My kids had me do Edith Ann this last wkend and they cracked up, even at 53 I can still do it all but putting my foot in my mouth, lol.  Thank you again.  God blessed you and you Blessed us.

Better be careful with all this praise, you’ll have to buy a bigger hat. Love your type of humor more than any other. Makes me laugh and think at the same time. Happy Birthday.

OK, I am nosey - what where you doing in Boston Miss Lilly?  It would be oh so nice to see you on TV or film, but I guess that Boston isn’t where people normally go if they are working on a TV show or a movie…

A very Happy B’day Lily (I’ll remember it in the future ’cause we’re one day apart). I’ve been an admirer of yours for years. I have a friend who was an acquaintance of yours during your Laugh In days, and have thoroughly enjoyed everything you’ve done in your career. Nashville and your B’way one woman show at the top of the list. For the joy and sanity that you’ve brought so so many lives I wish you and your loved ones continued good health, good luck and happiness for many years to come.

I agree with Grace K. Seriously,  no way E.A. looks a day over 40.  Hopefully, you, and your beloved  partner, Jane, will be blessing us with your comic genius for many years to come. Happily your grandeur is anything but delusional.

Totally not a day over 40, inside AND out - you should see her in person. It’s ridiculous. I seethe with envy and I’m only 25.

Belated wishes for a happy birthday!  Agree w/ others, would be nice to see see some Laugh In re-runs for Edith Anne, Ms. Tomlin the telephone operator, and weren’t you also Sparkle Farkle?  My Mom wanted me to be Sparkle one year for Halloween but I wanted to be a policeman.  The uniform.  :)
