Liz Smith 'Despises' John Edwards, 'Loves' Martha Stewart
In response to: David Letterman vs. John Edwards: When someone comes clean about their wrongdoing, are you more willing to forgive them?
Hey, has John Edwards "come clean" – he just keeps making matters worse. I despise this guy; how dare he try to be president with his private behavior. He could have ruined the Democratic Party. But I thought Imus was/is wonderful the way he tried to actually make amends, going to see the young women he had insulted and raising money for them. I am withholding a result on David Letterman but I guess if all his co-workers can forgive him and his wife can forgive him, and CBS can forgive him because he is one of their stars, then he should live and be well. I love Martha Stewart and I thought she really paid her debt to society; I thought the circumstances of her indictment for insider trading were suspicious at best. It all depends on how the indicted behave. She was a champ and emerged from prison to overcome all obstacles.

Hey Liz: I don’t get the comparison in the original headline. How can anyone compare Letterman to Edwards?
Edwards was and is a hypocrite, liar and cheat. He still won’t come clean, still won’t acknowledge his child. I considered voting for this creep and that really ticks me off. MAN UP JOHN.
Letterman (known to be completely anti-social outside of work) was a bachelor for many years, he had relationships with some consenting women. Where do most people meet? At work. He wasn’t touting family values, he always said "I’m not good at marriage, so why do it again?" I very much doubt he’d be married today if it weren’t for his son. I think the negative attention he’s getting is unfair. He’s a man, not a monk. Don’t feel sorry for Regina, she got what she wanted. He didn’t commit to her in over 20 yrs. If you live with a guy that long without a commitment, you obviously accept: no commitment.
Martha Stewart wasn’t prosecuted, she was persecuted.
Imus made a career out of saying inappropriate things, so whats the big deal. He was wrong, he admitted it and apologized. Turn the page. As contrary and cantankerous as he is, I miss him.
I also don’t equate Edwards and Letterman. Edwards portrayed his marriage as a great love story. The idea of not only cheating, but cheating on the wonderful Elizabeth, who had been through so much, turns my stomach. I did vote for him when I got the chance. And I always watch Dave. Johnny Carson didn’t have a sterling record, either. Funny guys are subposed to entertain, that’s it.
Martha WAS persecuted. I didn’t feel safer that she was in prison.
I don’t miss Imus; I’m listening to him right now on Imus in the morning.com. That was the MOST ABSURD whining. But now, instead of equally insulting everyone, he’s very fluffy to Shawn Insanity, etc. and Bill O’Sleazy. When will people quit listening the jerk, Al Sharpton? Talk about a flim flam man….
