LIZ SMITH FLASH! A Question From National Review

Liz Smith
Here we present a  religious question from the opinion and editorial pages of the National Review magazine. And it’s a very good one, I think.

***

November issue of National Review: "We all know that Jihadists believe that pious Muslim males will be rewarded with 72 virgins in paradise. What will those virgins actually be like, though? Saudi cleric Sheikh Muhammad al-Munajid has been telling us on Saudi Arabia’s Al-Majd TV.  Main point: They will be white. Very white. ‘Allah said that the black-eyed virgins are beautiful white young women … whose skin is so delicate and bright that it causes confusion. They are like precious gems and pearls in their splendor, their clarity, their purity and their whiteness.’

"We (at the National Review) confess to some slight confusion ourselves. Is there a separate afterlife for pious but unwhite Muslim females? If not, where do their souls go? If so, what’s their reward? Perhaps we all get new bodies in paradise, with the gals guaranteed to get white ones. Another possibility is that Sheikh Muhammad al-Munajid is a gibbering lunatic.

"This is, after all, the man who last year issued a fatwa against Mickey Mouse, whom he described as "one of Satan’s soldiers.’"

I just love  fanatical religions, don’t you? They make so much sense.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, "Religion is a product of MEN", if you read the bible you will see  that the CHURCH refers to Jesus/God as the Head and the warriors (us) are the body.  Religion was developed to keep mankind under the thumbs of those who are followers.

I don’t know much of the Koran but I do know that that Jesus is called a Profit, As with Muhammad.

Since the beginning as is has been written and proved through archeology, bible, other writings, religion was formed and used to keep the masses under control.  Those who are fanatics carry it to a much dangerous level.

I believe that God is my Higher Power and Jesus are his son, but I do not subscribe to religious standards on the religious world sets for their followers and yes the Bible was penned by man, but in my heart it was penned threw man from the Lord.

My only prayer is that this world will find peace before I leave it, I know that’s a tall order, but that is my prayers

The serpent said to Eve, here, have some ego and Eve gave some to Adam and Adam created god in his image.  And the sons of Adam have continue to created god in their image.  To make up for the serpent and Adam, god created Dallas and Neiman-Marcus and the charge card for Eve.  But don’t let Adam know.  I know this only because someone in Highland Park told me.

That is brilliant Mr. Pete Casino. You bring up a lot of sensible questions. Well, it is my belief and I think most of the Catholics I know that when we passed away, we will enter a transformations to be "Angels of God" and therefore, we will be given a new body. Clean, devoid of all earthly illnesses and diseases, just perfect body. Therefore, all of us will be "virgins" not just like a virgin. True virgins in every sense of the word.  However, if this Koran teaching holds true, then, the white, white virgins are still in danger of being defiled by a fanatic, over-indulgent pious Muslim who will try to search and demand for his "prized 72 virgins." I  will keep my decency, however, to hide my white countenance, I will strive hard to get golden tanned. Then, no one will recognize my true color.

I could be mistaken for a girl in Ipanema, tall and tan and young and lovely. Just kidding. I am a comic.

Anyway, this whole story is preposterous. But got to keep our sense of humor and be a very understanding and kind Christian to all our brothers. Peace to all.

Hey, Snooks–-funny, my thoughts exactly, and the question is: Do all prophets profit? One ponders this in deep contemplation on rainy days.

Freud described religion as indicative of a collective mental disorder. That pretty much sums up my impression as well.

Are all of those glowing white virgins really ALL that much more far fetched than:

"A mansion, just over the hilltop

In some bright land where

We’ll never grow old

And someday yonder

We’ll never more wander

But walk the streets that

Are paved with gold."

Like the evangelical right believes?

A mansion, just over the hilltop = envy?

In some bright land where

We’ll never grow old = vanity?

And someday yonder

We’ll never more wander

But walk the streets that

Are paved with gold." = greed?

My Lord, what are we singing???? Think about all those songs…

some of our most popular hymns are bloody and horrific at best

all in order that we might receive a mansion and all the things money can buy

I know we should have taken that left turn in Albuquerque :-)

Phyllis - The three monotheistic religions all believe in the same God. The simple fact that characters in all three are the same tells you that. Jews follow the old testament and the first 5 books of the old testament are called the Mosaic Laws. The New Testament is used by Christians only. BTW, Muslims say it is the same God. All three religions have different opinions on Jesus. Jews don’t believe Jesus was a prophet while Christians do, Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet but Mohammed was the final prophet and delivered the final word of God.

Actually it has to do with the covenants and the belief that the Jews and then the Christians broke their convenants with god and so god offered a final covenant and while Jews and Christians may be viewed as individually keeping their covenants they do so within the framework of the convenant of Islam.  And it is a dangerous religion on that basis. Jews and Christians are expected to submit to god and if they don’t, off with their heads.  Islam by the way means submission. Many Muslims do not accept this but they are considered infidels as well.  The fundmentalism we have seen in Islam by the way mirrors a simliar fundamentalism in Judaism and Christianity.  Judaism and Christianity do not call for the submission of Muslims. Islam however does call for the submission of Jews and Christians.

Of course Mormons believe theirs is the final convenant.  Personally I think Joseph Smith discovered LSD before anyone else did and went on a hell of a trip. The similarities between Islam and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints do make one wonder. Apparently Joseph Smith didn’t know about the 72 virgins in Paradise or he would have thrown that in as well. People who get outraged over Roman Polanski should read about Joseph Smith.

Baby Snooks,

With Polygamy they didn’t have to wait for eternal life to get their Virgins……..they could get them in the Here and Now.

(before the law was changed)……..wives upon wives.

I always thought Joseph Smith was just a Horny young man who created a religion so he

could live the way he wanted……..He had a lot of buddies that thought it was a good idea.

I guess people create what they want to try to be happy. Of course the decisions are made for the welfare of the male species.

Some just call it Religion.
