Liz Smith: 'Kitty' and 'Babe' – The Broderick Twins

What else does Our Gossip Girl have in her pre-holiday dish? Liz Taylor copes with Michael’s death … Actor’s Fund lures stars … Judi Dench – too respectable to swear?

Great expectations of summer? Yes, mid-July we get "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which will show the classic characters eight years older. Believe it or not, Harry will now be in his sixth year at Hogwarts "in the grip of hormonal angst" as they say.

Come August we’ll have "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and this is a high-tech action movie based on a military doll and an animated TV series. The director is Stephen Sommers and he will offer Sienna Miller in a catsuit and stilettos.

"Inglourious Basterds" also comes in August with Quentin Tarantino giving Hollywood the back of his hand again trying to re-establish his offbeat glory. He has Brad Pitt in this movie so, probably, all will be well.

Talk about romantic, the beautiful Christie Brinkley has become pragmatic as time went by. She now advises, "Right at the beginning of a relationship, I would formulize an exit strategy."

James - No, not at all.  Enjoy the holiday and the entire week end, too.  I hope you will share photos of events in your home town, with us on wOw, as it celebrates the 4th.  Yes, I will enjoy the 3rd and the 5th.  Patty

Thanks, Patty. I hope you realized that was my (weird) sense of humor there.

This is a real late response to your post because I did not have the time to respond till now. In any case, i have little if any doubt that James is not yet "over the top" about the new arrivals. Our youngest was in first grade when we found out about "the baby". We were four months into the project before we found out that the baby had brought a friend. When, in fact, it turned out to be two BOYS our Elizabeth was even less enamored. It took awhile, but she found out how cute they were and that had not really taken over her entire life. Matthew and Sarah Jessica need to be especially aware of James’ need for special attention and praise. Every child needs another child "to bounce" their life off of. In the long run it will be a wonderful experience for everyone.

Liz, you’re right, of course. ET soldiers on, as always. Taylor has dealt with death from a very young age.
James Dean was her first experience of a loved one dying prematurely, with his tragic car accident near the end of filming 1956’s "Giant."
The following year Monty Clift nearly died in a car crash after leaving Taylor’s home when they had just started shooting "Raintree County."
The next year Mike Todd died in a plane crash when Taylor was starting to film "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." She was supposed to be with him, but a fever kept her home…and alive.
Three years, Taylor herself nearly died of pneumonia during the epic, "Cleopatra."
And it goes on…
And so does Elizabeth Taylor, for however longer she graces our presence.

Yes, there are those of us at the ripe old age of 77 that can still

be strong and survive on the other side of tragedy…As Elizabeth has had so have I………….We are a couple of Tough Broads……………

You grieve and then keep your memories of those lost ones deep in your heart to warm you on cold days…

Where can I find Liz Smith’s interview with Marion Cotillard? I agree with Liz; she’ll be around a long time.

DEAR KIT I INTERVIEWED MS. Cotillard at the time she came to the U.S. for her Edith Piaf film. My files have gone off to the Univ of Texas so I can't call it up for you but if ever I get copes back from UT , I will look for it and e mail to you. regards, Liz
