Liz Smith: Let's Not Assume the Next CEO of the LPGA Is a Lesbian

If a female becomes the next CEO of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, let’s not immediately label her a lesbian …
Liz Smith
I don’t personally give a damn but I think it would be quite wonderful and funny if it is a woman and a tiny, little, coquettish, wisp of a girl, someone that they won’t immediately begin to be able to label as "a lesbian."

But would she know anything about golf?

Don’t you think Lindsay Lohan has managed to do away with that  stereotype finally?

But what precludes a tiny little coquetteish wisp of a girl from being a lesbian?

I think it should be a woman and a former player.

I would hope it’s a woman and current or former player. Gee…it’s hard enough finding jobs for women in positions of power. And what’s she doing in this position if she doesn’t play golf.

This was an interesting question and it appears everyone read it correctly and is responding with their honest opinion. Is it necessary that the new CEO be a female?

If there is anything that we have learned over the years, just because someone is of the same gender or race as the group they are representing, does not mean they will be more sensitive to the needs and desires of those they oversee. A woman could be appointed and from the onset seem to be a perfect fit, only to discovered two months into the job that she is not at all sensitive to the players.

I agree with others who have voiced the opinion gender is not a necessity, competence to serve is. Just because she has breasts should not mean she is deserving of the position anymore than a man having a penis should preclude him from it.

I don’t even know what to say to this.  I assume it is tongue in cheek.   I’m not a golf fan and don’t care one way or the other.

Like Katharine Grey, I’m not a golf fan but what irks me is that men’s golf is simply known as the PGA. Why does women’s golf have to be labelled as Ladies Professional Golfing Association? Why can’t it be WPGA.  Men don’t even get a title while women are ladies.  I don’t understand.  A sport is a sport and women are given an unequal to men gender.  Any thoughts on this Liz? As for the new CEO of the ‘L’PGA, I don’t really care, but on the other hand, if women only play, then why not have a woman as the new CEO as long as she’s qualified?  Does the PGA have a male or female CEO? It makes a difference if the PGA is all about men only.
