Liz Smith: Lindsay Lohan's Comeback? (Video)

Liz Smith

Why am I the only one rooting for Lindsay Lohan?

She’s a tabloid darling, what with her tumultuous love affair with former lady friend DJ Samantha Ronson, but let’s not forget that Lindsay has proved herself to be a great talent while working alongside Hollywood legends including Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep. Now, after months of unflattering gossip, Lindsay reportedly has inked a starring role in Robert Rodriguez’s movie "Grindhouse." Could this be the comeback she desperately deserves? Watch me on Fox for this news and more.

I’m with you on Lindsay Lohan. She’s not the only one in Hollywood who got into trouble, and she’s been working her way through it ever since. She refuses to be anyone but who she is. She’s unashamed of her relationship with Samantha Ronson (which, btw, seems very much on at the moment, Liz), even though it’s probably cost her movie roles and public acceptance. And most of all, she’s always been and continues to be a talented, charismatic actress. With the right role and the support of even just a few people in Hollywood and in the media—like you—she could have the major career that people like Streep and Fonda and others have said she could have, in spite of many in the media and especially on the web and in the tabloids who have been mercilessly targeting her as well as fabricating outright lies about her.

I congratulate you Liz. The hatred Lindsay is facing every day from sites and bloggers is disgusting. Many people are indeed rooting for her. Keep it up.

With parents like hers, no wonder Lindsay Lohan grew up to be the way she has. She never had positive parental guidance nor had a positive parent role to emulate. Hopefully, Lindsay can overcome her upbringing with positive support from people who don’t use her and who only have her best interests at heart. I hope she stops smoking since she has asthma.

I wish someone would come up with a script for her and Ann-Margaret. They look so much alike, it’s eerie, both beautiful women. Lindsay should emulate Ann-Margaret’s life. Ann-Margaret also conquered her drinking problem.

I’m have been rooting for Lindsay since she started her down hill ride. Her parents are gross and did nothing to help her, they only exploited her for her entire life. I hope she finds success for her self this time. I think if she started eating right, put on a litlle weight and became curvey again the roles would come pouring in.

It’s one thing to root for someone who is truly struggling to succeed and get their life on track. I have not seen one scintilla of effort on Lohan’s part to indicate that she is shedding her ‘bad habits’ and focusing on the straight and narrow (no pun intended). I bear her no ill will but am certainly not amused by her past public vulgarity and debauchery. If she finally moves ahead in life, good for her. To me she is just a blip, though a constant blip, on the Media Trash Radar Screen. It’s up to her own efforts to get herself off that screen and join the roster of accomplished actors in Hollywood who are written about because of their accomplishments not their public spectacles.

I find Lohan spectacularly boring and woring why Liz is compelled to write about her all the time.

To all of those who do the "poor Lohan never had a chance because of her parents" dance, it’s ridiculous. There comes a time in every adult’s life when s/he has to take responsibiity for the here and now and the future. And I haven’t seen her do diddly. Frankly, I think she’s a lousy role model for kids today.

I have nothing against her really, but why does she "desparately deserve" a comeback?  She has had more opportunity than many talented people who would like a show biz career.  She’ll deserve a comeback once she earns it.  And I don’t see why anyone is writing/talking about her right now.  It’s boring.

Personally I think she and Britney and Paris should start a singing group and call themselves The Trashettes.  There is nothing glamorous about them or their lifestyles or their admirers.  And please, please do not read something into "lifestyles" because I am referring to the drugs and alcohol and their total and complete dysfunctional behavior.

Several people slammed Zsa Zsa Gabor several years ago for her criticism of Paris on the basis that Zsa Zsa had also "created herself "out of outrageous public relations stunts. The difference is Zsa Zsa didn’t start out with a boyfriend selling a videotape of their sexual adventures.

Of course not.  They didn’t have VCRs back in the 30s….   But she certainly started by sleeping around.  I don’t think anyone who has had 9 husbands has any right to complain about the sexual impropriety of someone else.

I doubt seriously you would have ever seen Zsa Zsa, Eva or Magda Gabor in a porno film simply because their mother would have shipped them back to Budapest.   She certainly wouldn’t have complained about someone invading her daughters’ privacy the way Rick and Kathy Hilton did.

Robert Rodriguez’s movie “Grindhouse” came out in 2007. Is this a sequel?

Right on Liz!  She’s a huge talent who had no grounding or direction as she navigated growing up in Hollywood.  Would any of us done any better?
