Liz Smith Remembers Her 'Texas Friend' Farrah Fawcett

One of the nicest women in show business – Farrah Fawcett – has left us. She was my Texas friend and we shared a February 2 birthday that kept us in touch with one another. I well remember how this dear girl, who became an iconic "Charlie’s Angel" sensation with her good looks and great hair, always remained devoted to her family and worried about their welfare. We never had a conversation that didn’t lead back to her parents!
When she more than fulfilled promises most people didn’t even believe she could keep, nobody was more thrilled than I was. (She was Emmy and Golden Globe nominated multiple times for dramatic performances in "The Burning Bed," "Extremities," "Between Two Women," "Small Sacrifices" and perhaps for her greatest role – heiress Barbara Hutton in "Poor Little Rich Girl.")
I want to thank her longtime lover Ryan O’Neal for the way he stood by when she needed him most. So long, little birthday Aquarian. Sleep easy.

From past television interviews, it was clear she had an extraordinary, loving relationship with her parents. Her poor Daddy, losing his baby girl.
The most poignant moment on that recent documentary of Farrah’s life, was seeing her gaze out the window at the weather, and wondering if when she was an angel, she’d still be able to dip her hand back into earth to feel rain (or a cloud, or snow.) It was just heartbreaking. She was such a strong, little fighter. I extend my sympathy to those of you who were her friend and to her family. Her son has a hard path to pursue without his mother, and I hope those who loved Farrah work with him with the hope he can make it.
Dear Liz: I am so sorry for your loss. your friend Farrah Faucett. I have
never seen anyone who wanted to live so much as she. Peace be with her and all her loved ones. Sincerely, Frederica Winter
Liz, it looks like she may have company today - Michael Jackson. I sad, sad day.
