Liz Smith Sticks to a Land Line

Liz Smith
I gave up on my iPhone, given to me by the sainted Joni Evans of wOw, and passed it on to one of our hard-working wOw kids. I am just going to content myself with signal flags, bonfires and that famous old gadget, the land telephone. If anybody ever invents anything that works easily I will try it again, but for now. No.

I think people get to a certain point and they just stop and do not cross the line….be it music..gadgetry…new software…Me? Stopped listening to new music in 96….will never get a blaclberry/iphone, cannot master the texting…facebook yes, twitter never and 2 versions of adobe have passed me by with out an attempt to master. It’s an odd occurrance and I can’t believe it’s happening to me.. I remember my Dad was upset when we got a touch tone phone at his office and horrors! It had 2 lines with a hold button! He was a sign painter and was so disturbed graphic plotters came out in 85. He’d flip if he saw what I can produce today with the aid of a computer.

I did give up the land line at home though…wasnt worth the 50 bucks a month…I never used it. And I like that all my numbers are saved in the cell and if ever in an emergency situation I have a phone with me.

Liz…you might not succumb to the cell phones but I am glad you have embraced the internet and given me something good to read every morning!

We decided since all of us had "pocket phones" we’d discontinue our land line. There isn’t a way to count all of the times I’ve regretted that decision. Pocket phones are wonderful, unless, of course, you don’t have them in your pocket!

Paula, you could definitely "master" the texting only you have to be taught by a teenager. : ) It’s not hard it is just time-consuming until you get the hang of it & then for me time consuming when I got the hang of it. ; ) I don’t do it often at all. However, I never liked gadgetry even when I was *young.* I did not want to learn how to use a computer because I was heartbroken when I first worked in a newsroom that was noisy as could be with the clacking of typewriters and then we had to bring in those computers and that room suddenly became silent! Now, I look at those old Remingtons and think, how did I ever get anything done?!

I don’t mind land lines. But I would prefer a cordless small phone I can put in my lap and move around better. That is why I believe cellphones are ideal for people with disabilities that still have hand dextarity.
