Liz Smith on Living and Dead Feminists

Liz Smith
This is a tough one. I think the still-living feminist Gloria Steinem and the now-dead women who fought for women’s suffrage changed our lives the most for the better. Thank God!

Might sound silly but I think Oprah is really a wonderful woman who has helped sooooo many people.

Barbara Walters.  I so envy her charm and the ease with which she has been able to conduct interviews with so many varied and interesting persons all these many many years.

Gloria Steinem.  She was instrumental in the women’s movement making many things possible for today’s women.  I was a flight attendant for 27 years and had the pleasure of her presence on two different flights.  It made me sad that the young twenty-somethings had no idea who she was or how great her achievements. Of course, we older gals filled them in.

Germainne Greer, grumpy old Aussie that she is, deserves recognition for pioneering women’s rights. Go Girls!!!!
