I think this column was the first to tell you, long ago, that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to his famous "Phantom of the Opera" would take place in New York and present the Phantom alive, having escaped from the fire. Then it would segue on to big drama amid the fairgrounds of Coney Island. (Can’t tell you how many people made fun of me for this item, as if I had dreamed it up all by myself.)

So comes word that the world premiere of "Love Never Dies" opens in London next March and segues on to Broadway November 11, 2010. Over 100 million people have seen the original and there’s no reason they won’t want to see the sequel.

Actors Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess will be starring as The Phantom and Christine. So there!

The big news on Twitter was the announcement last week that Disney teen superstar Miley Cyrus, is getting off Twitter!

Miley says she discovered that she was wasting too many hours online, on the BlackBerry, etc., pointlessly "chatting." She wants to spend more "real" time with friends and maybe just go for a walk, think and then – gasp! – keep those thoughts to herself. Stay strong, Miley. (Her father, one-hit wonder Billy Ray Cyrus, wants her to stay on Twitter. Afraid she might lose a few fans?)

If a 16-year-old-girl can pry herself away from the addictive idiocy of tweeting and texting every five minutes, perhaps some adults out there will stop embarrassing themselves with Twitter. It is simply the latest way to banish privacy, anticipation, decorum, civility, proper spelling and punctuation from what appears to be a wildly indiscreet and hyper generation. Nowadays too many people seem to have ADD.

The young star most in need of Twitter rehab is Lindsay Lohan. It’s difficult to tell a person’s state of mind in Twitter-world – after all, one is allowed only 140 characters. But Lindsay’s constant tweets are invariably picked up by the gossip websites. The most negative interpretation is then put on them. Not that it would matter if Lindsay tweeted The Great American novel; cyberspace gossips want only the worst for this girl.

Hollywood dines: Spotted at Santa Monica’s tiny Italian hideaway, Capo: The eternally suave and stylishly dressed Pierce Brosnan with his beautiful wife, Keely Shaye Smith. At the next table sat an all-but-unrecognizable, heavily bearded Keanu Reeves. (Hiding out from that Canadian lady who is pursuing him, insisting Keanu is the father of one or more of her four kids?)

And right next to the grizzly Reeves was a surprisingly beefy, even slightly rotund Brendan Fraser of muscular "Mummy" and "George of the Jungle" fame. The actor looked handsome nonetheless, but his rapid-fire shoveling of food did merit a few glances.

Perhaps Brendan is porking up for a new role? It’s all the rage. Matt Damon did it for "The Informant." Jim Carrey is still eating for three in preparation for his role in "The Three Stooges." I keep saying, these extremes in gaining or losing weight for a movie seem unhealthy to me, but I guess that’s Method acting.

Oh, all the above stars greeted each other amiably, as if they’d planned to dine out together, but at separate tables.

I know nothing about Miley Cyrus and am not a fan, but her stock just went up a couple of notches with me.  Here’s hoping more people follow her example and ditch things like Twitter in favor of making private lives private again, and giving their full attention to real, face-to-face relationships.

I couldn’t tell you the name of one song Miley Cyrus sings.  I applaud her decision. I have read that teens send an average of about 200 texts per day which amounts to a solitary life with a piece of technology in your hand for daily communication.

My, how times have changed. When I was Miley’s age, I was at the local Dairy Queen, Cherry Coke in one hand, and yapping and yukking it up with my friends.  When I was home, my brothers and I argued over the one phone in the house.

All of this tweeting and texting and facebooking seems socially unhealthy to me, but then, I am from another era.

Yes, I was very impressed that Miley gave up Twittering until I learned it was only because her boyfriend didn’t like it. They’ll break up and it will take her about 5 seconds to start back up.

It was on MSN when she first stopped using it.  She was quoted as saying she was quitting twitter because her new boyfriend didn’t like it.

Thank you, Liz, for saying something sensible about twittering.  I find it paradoxical that the beautiful art of conversation has all but vanished and the means for endless chattering is growing.  A great stock, however.

In 2008 Lindsay Lohan said "It’s an amazing feeling. It’s our first, you know, colored president…."

She should not only be banned from Twitter, but she shouldn’t be allowed to give another interview again as long as she lives. Anyone that obtuse has nothing to say of any substance.

I think Miley is smart to refrain from Twitter, good for her.

Twitter is fine for catching up with old /new friends and should be used in addition to (not in lieu of) a life that is already well rounded with personal connections, quiet time, personal thoughts and feeling, as well as sharing intimacy with loved ones. Who REALLY has time these days (maybe celebrities and teens) to ponder through daily life casually connecting and spending quality time with everyone in ones life? We live in hectic times. We have much more responsibilities and activities to attend to on a daily basis so connecting with ten friends on Twitter, in an hour, can really enhance the social ‘play’ time that you can realistically spend with your friends. Like all addictions, if it is interfering with the quality of your life and find yourself shying away from personal encounters in favor of tweeting in a cyber world…then a red flag goes up. There may be a serious issue at hand. The people that do not like tweeter do not use (or understand) this time management aspect of the device. It’s more than posting an activity you are engaging in every five minutes. Those who ARE doing that have entirely too much time on their hands to begin with. I support Twitter for the service that it can provide. It is not suppose to take over control of your life. If it does, then you have bigger problems to contend with and Twitter is simply a symptom of a much needed lifestyle adjustment.

Good for Miley, I have never used twitter, I don’t really have the need to what Celebs are eating for lunch. Now I will admit I’m somewhat of a Facebook addict, but I’m not on there updating my status all day I’m usually playing the games, Farmville is very addicting…

Liz - this is totally off subject…. sort of… it’s the Gosselins! I’ve never seen the show and only catch headlines. But someone needs to tell the California Courts that those kids need an appointed Guardian Ad Litem! I don’t know if they do that in CA but i’d assume so. In my state a GAL is appointed to serve and advise the court as to "the best interest of the children". If there were ever kids caught in the middle of adult agendas it’s those kids. Come on Liz.. you have pull!

I just didn’t quite grasp the whole Twitter phenomena until the recent demonstrations in Iran, when on-the-scene Tweets flooded out before the crackdown and showed the world that many in Iran were actively speaking out, being shot, arrested and now - as we learned this week - being sentenced to death for their participation. That kind of immediacy and raw, unedited on-the-spot coverage is exactly what the technology should be all about. Instead, we get vapid "celebrities" sending out Tweets about what cocktail they are imbibing at the moment, or who looks hot, or some such nonsense. So Miley, stick to your resolve to go cold turkey on the Twittering. Keep SOME privacy in your life, please! You’ll be glad you did in the not-too-distant future, I’m sure, since nothing kills the buzz faster than sheer overexposure, and you’ve already had that. (I would direct Ms. Cyrus to the magic and mystery of Greta Garbo - a couple of years of off-the-radar would probably give this girl a chance to learn a whole lot about life in a way that the public Miley never could. And she’d look good in a nice trench coat, too, instead of short shorts and Uggs! Try it, Miley!) ;->
