LIZ SMITH FLASH! Vanity Fair's Big Bang

Brigitte Lacombe
Vanity Fair magazine arrives for January with a big bang and a worthy photographic portfolio by Brigitte Lacombe of Meryl Streep as she rose to the top over the years. A penetrating article by Leslie Bennetts profiles this unusual one-and-only star who is still, at last, and forever, a big box office miracle.
"It’s incredible — I’m 60, and I’m playing the romantic lead in romantic comedies! Bette Davis is rolling over in her grave." So marvels Meryl Streep, the world’s most acclaimed actress with two Oscars, 15 Academy Award nominations and 23 Golden Globe nominations, more than any other actor in the history of these awards, to her name. What’s more, she is credited with pushing "Mamma Mia!" to half-a-billion-dollar grosses and most of her other movies have made money on her name as well.
You will enjoy seeing Meryl in all her Lacombe glory giving "celebrity" a good name for a change.
P.S. The wOw women have another special reason to love Vanity Fair this month. We are showing you the FANFAIR page of the magazine, which features "Bright Young Things" and our own bright young thing is someone we’ve all adopted — Chloe Malle, age 24 — daughter of the late film genius Louis Malle and our very own glamour-puss and excellent award-winning actress Candice Bergen. (Need I remind you that Candy won the Emmy so many times for "Murphy Brown" that she graciously took herself out of the running so someone else could win it!)
Chloe says her idea of who she’d love to have dinner with falls to her mother and father. How many parents have a kid like that? This Brown graduate wants to be a writer and is one, already toiling for the New York Observer.
Chloe is the wOw pride and joy, our bet for the future of America!

What more can be said, two woman who make us proud to be a member of the same group. We need good role models for the youth of America’s young ladies. Women who show and live a life that is real and prove a dream can come true.
