Liz Smith 'Was Stagestruck By the Old Le Cirque'

Liz Smith
My favorite restaurant in the entire world is the original Le Cirque, now moved to other domains, which opened in the Mayfair Hotel on 63rd Street and gave Sirio Maccioni to the world. It was here I met the real upper crust, or what was left of it. It was here I had wine sent to me by Richard Nixon and was told by Roy Cohn a lot of horrid little stories about J. Edgar Hoover, and here that I first sat with Brooke Astor, Barbara Walters, Joan Ganz Cooney and so many other grand ladies who enabled my career and my life. I was stagestruck by the old Le Cirque and it is still my idea of the high life.

Great question, Fran.  I want to know this too.

I just read Gael Greene’s autobiography, Insatiable. She mentions you actually quite frequently in it, and of course she’s known for her infamous article that came out decades ago "I Love Le Cirque… But Can I Be Trusted?" Le Cirque is to die for!
