I live in a basketball city, and frankly, I don’t follow it; I much prefer the arts. Besides, University of Ky. fired its coach this past Friday, and so I am going through the outrage of seeing what his exit package might cost them, when they are having to lay off staff and make so many cuts at the whole university….
What is with UK they really treated Tubby badly and now Gillespie. I know your not a basketball person but from someone else who is from another storied program KU Jayhawks it just looks bad the way they have treated the last 2 coaches but for KU’s sake we only need 18 more wins to surpass you guys on the all time win record but then we have to go after Carolina. Sounds like you guys might go after Calipari, if so it might take us longer to make up those 18 wins. As always Rock Chalk Jayhawk
I don’t know much about it, but Tubby was ready to move. And Gillespie brought it on himself from what I hear. Besides, if he gets the full package he’s asking for, I hardly think it is treating him badly. He was not a good fit for here.
I heard Gillespie wasn’t a good fit. He wasn’t real smooth around the Alumni and the Donors. It is a lot of pressure and there is a lot of money involved. I don’t know that much but Tubby always seemed like a good coach and a nice man and I remember at the time there was some talk about how he wasn’t appreciated on ESPN and Kentucky might be sorry after he was gone. Maybe he got tired of the attitude of entitlement that crops up in some of these college towns. Its not like we don’t have it here in Kansas or in Chapel Hill or Durham.
Yes he is in Minnesota and I heard ESPN comment on that he is happy there and he got several texts and emails from Kentucky congratulating him on making the tourney this year.
Not a regular follower but I love the late championship games - big stakes, big drama, and raw emotion. How fantastic was the Cats vs. Pitt game - beautiful effort on both sides.
I have always loved college basketball. Went to a university with an excellent basketball team. Now that I live in AZ I have become quite a fan of the UofA basketball team who has consistently gone to the tourney..even won the Final Four one year. This year we made the Sweet 16, but have followed the other games and watched the play as much as possible. Looking forward to the final games next weekend. My husband is totally indifferent and thinks I’m crazy. Maybe I am, but it’s a fun crazy. Takes your mind off of politics and finances.
I used to follow almost all sports…then I married a watcher of sports, I divorced him and moved in with a man with two young sons and found that Little League, Pop Warner Football and Soccer made me crazy, then I dated a sports fanatic with season tickets to absolutely everything involving sports, and a 13 yr old son who played all of the above and more. The young man, and I use that term loosely, lacked good sportsmanship, swore like a truck driver, lived like a pig, and was a spoiled brat. After a while I figured out that he was merely modelling his father’s behavior. I lost all interest in watching sports when I found out I was dating the most well known heckler at all our local professional sports venues. It wasn’t a pretty sight. I saw a replay of ‘the three of us’ at a pro basketball game when one of the players took a swing at my date and struck me in the face instead. I survived and I look for a better quality man to date or I don’t date at all. Oh! Did I mention the settlement from my game injury lawsuit paid my way through Grad School. ;-)
I currently watch professional tennis and golf and horse racing. The rest of it is pure madness and I won’t even watch the others at home with QM (mom). She yells so loud at the TV you can hear her across the street. CA
March Madness just isn’t the same with my son away at college - no discussion of brackets, checking scores, nothing. My husband is not a fan of spectator sports at all. My daughter is consumed with her studies and the junior prom which comes up at the end of this week - she usually makes good bracket picks, too. I am putting tax papers together and I have to resubmit the FAFSA for my son. Ho hum here at my house.
Yes! And Michigan State is in the Final Four. How exciting! College sports are so much better than professional sports where most players are over paid and show little passion and fun.
