Marilyn Monroe Photographs – Taken Five Days Before Death – Auctioned on eBay
Photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken five days before her death are being auctioned off on e-Bay by Buddy Greco, the legendary jazz pianist.
The asking price begins at $7,500 for six images, which include four photos with Monroe and two with Frank Sinatra. In one picture, one of the most influential hairstylists, Jay Sebring, is cutting Greco’s hair. Sebring and actress Sharon Tate were murdered in 1969 by the Manson Family. According to the description on e-Bay, the pictures were taken at Sinatra’s Cal Neva Lodge in Lake Tahoe. Monroe died five days later, on August 5, 1962.
The photographs were part of a roll of 36 pictures, but only six remain. The other 30 photos were kept at an office at the World Trade Center and destroyed on September 11, 2001.
The e-Bay auction is one of many precious Greco belongings up for grabs. He has enlisted the help of The Presence Group to sell more rare photos, as well as letters, gifts and signed rarities from The Beatles, Fred Astaire, Louis Armstrong and Sinatra. More items will be placed on eBay over the next week.
The 81-year-old, who now performs at his nightclub, Buddy Greco’s Dinner Club near Palm Springs, CA, and one of the last living members of the "Rat Pack," says he wants to share his life with his fans.
"I’m in great health," Buddy said in a statement, "but it’s definitely time to simplify my life and give a new home to this wonderful collection. I can’t think of a better way to share it with the world."
