Mary Wells on the Greatest Hoax of All

In response to: From the Hitler Diaries to Balloon Boy, what are the greatest hoaxes you remember?

Cliff Irving fooled almost everybody. Liz is right about the details. The script unfolded like a movie, it was so colorful it kept the pot boiling. It was more of a comedy than a tragedy. The Tawana-Al Sharpton case was ugly and I don’t think solved. I have been traveling a lot lately and everywhere I go people are spending money as if drunk. I go to sleep nights wondering if life is a hoax. Or maybe a dream.

"There is so much in life that it’s confusing to figure what’s best. When it’s over and done I imagine a person could look at it more objectively and improve on it… but by then it’s probably too late."

Please, Ms. Wells! More on that comment about everybody spending money "as if drunk." Where and how are you noticing them doing that? I think this is fascinating.

Remember the Al Capone walled up site? That was one of the biggest hoaxes given to television by Geraldo. As for the comments on spending like every one is drunk - Try the United States Congress, people…… Sheesh!
