Maureen McCormick 'Marcia Brady' Helps Mentally Challenged Youth Find Friends

Maureen McCormick helping 'Best Buddies'

Maureen McCormick is making a difference like never before.

McCormick, who gained fame as "Marcia Brady," returns to the news this morning, but this time it’s not to speak about her notorious past during her childhood days. McCormick has found a new calling by helping mentally challenged youth find good friends. The actress is in Maui promoting a non-profit program called "Best Buddies."

Speaking to reporters in the area, McCormick said how her fame from television helps her draw attention to the program.

"I feel so blessed I was able to be on a show that’s been seen by so many people and that’s loved by so many people and if I can take something like Best Buddies and put that into the forefront and let people know that’s what makes me happy," she said.

McCormick’s recent tell-all book, Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice, revealed a past riddled with drugs, sex and depression. We’re thrilled to see her find happiness in helping others.

I am glad that she is helping to make a difference. I have a special needs grandchild, Kailee has mad a difference in our lives, but her Mother & Father have made a  difference to many who have a special individual in their lives, They created a free on line magazine "Parenting Special Needs", the magazine comes out every other month, they receive over !00K hits from readers with each issue!  The need for this type of help has been un-believable. She invites parents and siblings to share their stories that may help others with the challenges that they are faced with daily. My hat is off to Marcia, the difficulty of special kids making friends is an on going problem.  Socialization is important for everyone at any age.  You go Marcia!

I think that this is a great program and I’m happy to see people are helping people who need help. Everyone needs a friend.

to lighten the mood on this - the past president George W is free  :).  On the serious side - everyone needs a friend - love - human touch or we turn inward and so alone. We were made need contact, everyone and when that need is suppressed I hate to see what the person turns out to be - maybe an issue of why we need to build prison after prison.  Why some of our children hate and don’t know how to be a friend or a family member.  Tolerance was taught when my son was in school.  Tolerance of color, creed, religion, mental ability.  I insisted that he NOT ever Tolerate another human.  You take them for what they are - there is nothing to be tolerant of if they have a different skin color.  You tolerate rude people, high prices, the stock market tumbling and big bossiness raping the company of all of its money.  You don’t tolerate people.  Love, friendship, time - give it when you can - it will come back to you full force!
