Miss California Carrie Prejean, Gay Marriage | 04/24/2009 10:55 am

Miss California Carrie Prejean Becomes Conservative Darling Amid Gay Marriage Brouhaha

Carrie Prejean may have lost the Miss USA crown, but she sure won the hearts of conservatives. What is it with the GOP and beauty queens? Don’t forget that Sarah Palin was once an aspiring Miss Alaska! (swimsuit competition video here)

Miss California has been blasted since the Miss USA competition Sunday night, when she said on national television — much to the dismay of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton — she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. She later said that while she doesn’t regret voicing her beliefs, her stance is what left her in second place. But since then, Politico reports, Prejean has found a slew of supporters from conservative bloggers, talk-show hosts and others on the right.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins stated his "admiration and support" for Prejean and said she "has been victimized by this flagging production in a vain attempt to generate interest through controversy rather than substance." One Alabama state legislator even introduced a resolution praising her for speaking out against gay marriage; it passed by voice vote.

Others applauded her for speaking her mind, even if it may not have been politically correct enough for the pageant crowd.

"It was refreshing to see someone not give the politically correct answer," writes a Kansas City Star columnist. "Predictably, conservatives and some Republican politicians are embracing Prejean because of her comments. That’s fine, too, because she’s getting a positive reaction for speaking her mind."

Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe franchise, told FOX News that he has received thousands of calls and letters, the majority of which support Prejean’s stance.

"Miss California has done a wonderful job, that was her belief … It wasn’t a bad answer, that was simply her belief," Trump said, adding that Prejean’s question was "a bit unlucky," and that no matter how she answered, "she was going to get killed."

Perhaps if Prejean’s current career plans don’t work out, she could find a niche for herself in politics. The GOP could use more women in its ranks!

Perez Hilton most probably "read" her for the kind of girl she is and the whole thing became a set up. She is a beautiful girl and what makes her more beautiful is that she was not willing to "cave" on her beliefs just to win some tinsel crown. I hope she continues to go on to greater success and that she will continue to gain positive noteriety for staying strong.

She is beautiful and I applaud her speaking honestly!  Ironically she will probably benefit and be rememberd more than the actual winner.

The Donald was on FOX last night and he dodged the question when aske if they would ever have him back as a judge.  Only to say that people call him wanting to be a judge and they are not paid.

Of course he also said..that since everyone was talking about the pagent he was not unhappy about that.

Tells me he thinks more about money than about the women that participate.  But also said she would have no won anyway?????  Whatever that means..but would hire her in a minute for a job with TRUMP.

My advice to her….go anywhere but with that company!  I’m sure she will have many offers to choose from.

I’ll bet the real winner has a few choice words for this sore loser who keeps telling the media she should be the winner.

She never said that she should have won!!! The bruha..insued after Hilton was interviewed the next day and he wnet off on a tirade about her.  Then another judged admitted if he had his way she would have been the 51st runner up.

Both woman have been more than gracious about the whole thing.

I know that this story has been reported on MSM news…not just cabe that you do not receive????

She has repeatedly said the only reason she lost was because of her answer to that question.

No she has not DeBurca…but isn’t she beautiful? The real question here is why would anyone put someone like Perez Hilton as a judge? How stupid a move was that one? What in the world are his credentials for that?

That is what happens when someone like Perez attempt to take the spotlight for their own special interest. He could have asked her a question that is pertinent to more than 1% of our population. But no….he had to grandstand to get attention. But then again…it is all about attention with him.

I applaud her for stating her opinions in such a sweet way. That was her right and she did not back down. Good for her.

I think its great that the real winner, from what I can find or shall I say not find, hasnt had anything to say about it.  Keeping quiet is the right thing to do.

She was on FOX yesterday am and she had nothing but kind words for her and said she also admired her for speaking from her heart.

Oh no.  Hopefully she’ll put her best interests in front of her ego.  Allowing yourself to become a darling of the conservative machine can be hazardous unless you are a narcissist.

??????

I’m sure the LEFT is applauding Hilton for punishing her for her personal views and opinions…..the open minded diversity party (NOT)

SJ - you posted this in response to my post.  I’m not sure why you feel comfortable making assumptions about me or anyone else.  Do you always paint people with points of view different than yours with the same broad brush?  Do you imagine that you can read someone’s heart or mind because they do not see everything just the way you do?    What a disappointment.  You’re wrong to make assumptions.  Four days ago I posted a response to Perez Hilton’s treatment of Ms. California - here is what I said:

Perez - get over yourself.  You were a judge of a beauty contest and took a beauty contestant’s response to your minefield loaded question waaay too personally.  Give the girl a break.  It needs to be noted that your video response to Miss California includes a Freudian slip " … the question I opposed to her (Miss California)".  You ought not to have asked such a loaded question - it is as if you were setting her up.  Your video response is rude, mean, self-serving and you owe the woman an apology.  It is inappropriate for the judge of a contest to attack the people they judge post-competition and devour their reputation to achieve personal or professional gain..

S J, I’m not a real far left person but I think her answer was honest and I don’t even know why that Hilton person was even a judge. Who is he anyway??
