Miss California Carrie Prejean Becomes Conservative Darling Amid Gay Marriage Brouhaha

Carrie Prejean may have lost the Miss USA crown, but she sure won the hearts of conservatives. What is it with the GOP and beauty queens? Don’t forget that Sarah Palin was once an aspiring Miss Alaska! (swimsuit competition video here)
Miss California has been blasted since the Miss USA competition Sunday night, when she said on national television — much to the dismay of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton — she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. She later said that while she doesn’t regret voicing her beliefs, her stance is what left her in second place. But since then, Politico reports, Prejean has found a slew of supporters from conservative bloggers, talk-show hosts and others on the right.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins stated his "admiration and support" for Prejean and said she "has been victimized by this flagging production in a vain attempt to generate interest through controversy rather than substance." One Alabama state legislator even introduced a resolution praising her for speaking out against gay marriage; it passed by voice vote.
Others applauded her for speaking her mind, even if it may not have been politically correct enough for the pageant crowd.
"It was refreshing to see someone not give the politically correct answer," writes a Kansas City Star columnist. "Predictably, conservatives and some Republican politicians are embracing Prejean because of her comments. That’s fine, too, because she’s getting a positive reaction for speaking her mind."
Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe franchise, told FOX News that he has received thousands of calls and letters, the majority of which support Prejean’s stance.
"Miss California has done a wonderful job, that was her belief … It wasn’t a bad answer, that was simply her belief," Trump said, adding that Prejean’s question was "a bit unlucky," and that no matter how she answered, "she was going to get killed."
Perhaps if Prejean’s current career plans don’t work out, she could find a niche for herself in politics. The GOP could use more women in its ranks!

The Constitution of the United States of America, however IS NOT RELATIVE! Read the post. Hope you have a great Sunday!
she was discriminated against because she invoked her family/faith as a reason for her opinions.
this was a privately funded competition, it has nothing to do with laws. people can judge however they want.
Not hardly there Lemon Tea….that beauty needs no excuses. She got where she is just fine without them and she will get along fine without them.
Perez should have kept his attention seeking personal interests to himself. But then again….his jealousy is palpable. Yep lots of jealousy going around here….
looks like she does need excuses, since she’s making public appearances talking about one question out of a hundred that was asked of her.
and that jealousy and rage is well-founded. i’m sure slaves were jealous of their white masters because of the freedoms they enjoyed that the slaves weren’t allowed to.
Lemon Tea…the race card? Really? That does nothing to make your point. Nothing. It has no place in this issue, none what so ever.
Do you think that all "masters" were white and that all "slaves" were not? Incorrect. The history of slavery started within tribes of the same race.
To compare gay marriage to slavery is beyond disingenous. You forgot Hilter…and Bush…
it certainly does - the majority of the nation legislated discrimination against a group of people based on a characteristic - with the slavery in america, it was the whites whom enslaved the blacks simply because they were different and the whites believed they were better than them - they even used the bible and other arguments to "prove" that it is "natural" for blacks to be subordinate and lower than whites.
same argument for women, too… women were "naturally" second-class citizens, and were systematically denied the rights to freedom, to vote, to marry the partner of their choosing simply because of their genitals.
it is the exact situation now - the majority of homosexuals believe they are better than homosexuals, and are systematically denying them the right to marry the partner of their choosing simply because of their genitals.
Do you think that all "masters" were white and that all "slaves" were not?
in the us, yes. that’s what i’m talking about. try to keep up.
it is the perfect analogy - a group of minorities is denied basic human rights by the majority whom believe they are better than the minority. if you have a better "reason" to deny people you don’t know the right to marry the adult of their choice, let’s hear it - evidence and sources included would be appreciated.
No, NO and NO Lemon Tea…not even close to being correct. Slavery started in Africa BY AFRICANS. While you are ranting away about slavery in America…I must point out, that it is over, and has been for quite awhile. Not only that, but it was BY WHITE AMERICANS that they wer e freed. They did not overthrow or fight for freedom on their own.
BRAVE, WHITE AMERICANS fought each other, fought their own families, KILLED their own neighbor to immancipate those slaves. So knock it off…that time has past along with the white guilt.
No one is dening gay marriage because they "think" that they are "better". It is becauce they "know" that marriage is betweem a male and a female. Homosexuals have all of the rights that other single Americans have.
My evidence is that marriage is between a male and a female, my source is common sense and nature.
Homosexality is a choice of sexual preference.
wrong again kelly - i’m really getting tired of having to educate you on the simple history of the world. slavery has been around since the dawn of time and has been practiced by many cultures, the first records of it were in sumer, mesopotamia.
yes, the slaves that white people bought from africa were sold by africans themselves, but were of different tribes.
indeed it has been over, thank god. there should be no second-class citizens in this country. the situation of their rights being awarded to them is being repeated - blacks were seen as second class citizens and the majority did not want to give them the freedom to marry as they saw fit, along with other rights (voting, ect). same as gays - you and other people view gay people as second class citizens, and you don’t want to give them the equal rights they should have - the freedom to marry the consenting adult of their choice.
and this means what to your argument, kelly?
BRAVE, WHITE AMERICANS fought each other, fought their own families, KILLED their own neighbor to immancipate those slaves.
yes, they killed their brave, white american neighbors who believed that blacks were second-class citizens. and?
It is becauce they "know" that marriage is betweem a male and a female
and again i ask you - why? i don’t know anything of that sort. why is marriage between a male and female?
that is not an argument that would hold up in court, kelly. that is not a reason, it is an opinion and prejudice, and opinions are not legislated.this is where the discussion stops - when one side has nothing to support their prejudice. if you cannot show a compelling reason to deny the institution of marriage to gay people, there is no reason that
nope. wrong again. check a science book kelly - you’re wrong.
maybe you are saying this because to you, your heterosexuality is a choice. is that it, kelly? do you choose to be attracted to men, rather than women?
You know Lemon Tea…I am tired of having to straighten out your misleading posts. YOU were the one that stipulated the AMERICAN SLAVERY issue, and further added that I should "keep up". I suggest that you take your own advice. You need not school me in anything….I have written papers on the subject. I am NOT wrong, as I stated earlier, slavery has been around since man came along, starting within waring tribes….
The fact remains that Africans captured and sold human from other African tribes different than their own. The fact remains that WHITE AMERICANS FREED THEM FROM SLAVERY. But you only want to trot the race card out to compare it to gay marriage. It is an insult to what these slaves went through. IT IS DEMEANING TO WHAT THEY SUFFERED. To even start to put them in the same realm.
This is NOT where this discussion stops, not even close. Heterosexuality is normal, we do not choose it. Homosexuality is a choice made for a number of reasons….but it is a choice none the less. I do not give a hot hoot what holds up in these liberal courts. Common sense has gone out the window and everything goes….if it feels good do it….I don’t agree and MANY others do not.
You are wrong…NO ONE has come up with a difinitive reason or explantion for homosexuality. Many psychologist have insights that explain it to my satisfaction. But, homosexuals want for their sexual choice to be seen as the "norm" it is not. 1% of the poplulation does not a "norm" make. It is pretty simple to me….just "check out the plumbing"….there’s your answer.
On one is a "second class citizen" homosexuals have the same rights as any single heterosexual.
you said africans. re-read your own misleading and misinformed post. do not blame me for posting inaccurate information.
and that means what about their inherent right to equal protection and rights? i don’t see your point. clarify please.
i’m comparing the situation of a group of people who were treated as second-class citizens by the majority simply because of prejudice. it is quite appropriate.
kelly, the more you state this, the less credible you become. homosexuality is not a choice, just as heterosexuality is not a choice. if it is a choice for you to like women, kelly, then you aren’t a homosexual - you’re curious. get it right.
i ask again kelly, do you choose to be heterosexual? how do you know homosexuality is a choice, if you have never experienced it?
nope, it’s not. but keep digging that hole - soon you’ll get to china!
and let’s suppose it is a choice - a person’s religion is certainly a choice, yet we firmly protect that as a person’s right. we protect the freedom personal choices all day - even if homosexuality is indeed a choice, americans should protect it just as we do freedom of religion and speech - even religions and speech that some would consider to be dangerous and detrimental. any ideas on that one?
i think you mean "they don’t explain it to my satisfaction"… and i doubt that would be ever - you are closed minded and refuse to accept proven scientific fact that homosexuality is a natural variation for many species, including humans. i gave you several sources that i doubt you read. you can’t understand something if you refuse to read about it.
wrong again - that’s your prejudice showing again. gays don’t care what you think, they just want to be able to get married and have the same rights as straight couples. one could turn around this argument and say that anti-gay zealots want "acceptance" of their hatred of gays, and this is why they craft legislation specifically to oppose gays and gay rights - like this argument here.
and also, homosexuality is not a choice kelly, quit being insulting to a minority you obviously know nothing truthful about. and permitting something is not the same as endorsing it. it could hardly be argued that the government itself endorses all the speech and expression carried out in this country on a daily basis; it’s simply the people’s right, and the government takes a passive posture toward it.
this is a simply argument against gays themselves, not against their right to marry. again, your prejudice is showing quite brightly this evening.
so what if a man has a penis and a woman has a vagina? what does that have to do with the right to marry them? sexual reproduction (if that is your point) is quite possible with or without marriage, and heterosexual couples need not swear an oath to reproduce in order to receive a marriage certificate. elderly people who can’t have children can marry, people who don’t want kids can marry - what is your point?
On one is a "second class citizen" homosexuals have the same rights as any single heterosexual.
wrong again. don’t be naive. the fact is that heterosexuals presently have the right to marry the person of their choosing (with reasonable limitations of age and genetic relationship). homosexuals do not, at all, under any circumstances. the two classes of people are treated differently under the law, clearly. heterosexuals want to marry someone of the opposite sex, homosexuals do not.
