Miss California Carrie Prejean, Gay Marriage | 04/24/2009 9:55 am

Miss California Carrie Prejean Becomes Conservative Darling Amid Gay Marriage Brouhaha

Carrie Prejean may have lost the Miss USA crown, but she sure won the hearts of conservatives. What is it with the GOP and beauty queens? Don’t forget that Sarah Palin was once an aspiring Miss Alaska! (swimsuit competition video here)

Miss California has been blasted since the Miss USA competition Sunday night, when she said on national television — much to the dismay of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton — she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. She later said that while she doesn’t regret voicing her beliefs, her stance is what left her in second place. But since then, Politico reports, Prejean has found a slew of supporters from conservative bloggers, talk-show hosts and others on the right.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins stated his "admiration and support" for Prejean and said she "has been victimized by this flagging production in a vain attempt to generate interest through controversy rather than substance." One Alabama state legislator even introduced a resolution praising her for speaking out against gay marriage; it passed by voice vote.

Others applauded her for speaking her mind, even if it may not have been politically correct enough for the pageant crowd.

"It was refreshing to see someone not give the politically correct answer," writes a Kansas City Star columnist. "Predictably, conservatives and some Republican politicians are embracing Prejean because of her comments. That’s fine, too, because she’s getting a positive reaction for speaking her mind."

Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe franchise, told FOX News that he has received thousands of calls and letters, the majority of which support Prejean’s stance.

"Miss California has done a wonderful job, that was her belief … It wasn’t a bad answer, that was simply her belief," Trump said, adding that Prejean’s question was "a bit unlucky," and that no matter how she answered, "she was going to get killed."

Perhaps if Prejean’s current career plans don’t work out, she could find a niche for herself in politics. The GOP could use more women in its ranks!

Please reread my post: I asked you for documentation and don’t see it.  And she never said that gays weren’t human.  Why would you assume that she did?

Documetation to what?  I don’t have to document that I disagree with her.  She says on one hand everyone has a choice and then says proudly that in her "country"  gays can not marry and she does not believe in it.   Her country meaning the state of california.

So Starry…so what. He aksed her about her opinion and she told him. He just didn’t like the answer. He shouldn’t haven’t made it about some special interest agenda. There were plenty of question that would have INCLUDED all Americans in the process, not just some.

He was wrong to ask her, it was a no win situation for her. He was attempting to force her into a PC announcement or loose. He didn’t figure on her integrity. He thought that he would get the message out that HE wanted. Instead, he got her truth.

It was great. An American standing up for their opinion. GREAT.

obviously all the judges and all involved with the pageant didn’t like the answer, since she didn’t win. being against equal rights doesn’t seem to go over too well with most people involved. come on - it’s the Miss USA Pageant, how could she not know her audience and judges? the person asking you the question is an openly gay man, and at least 2 others on the panel are openly gay. another judge has a sister in a gay marriage. her very own state pageant director, KEITH LEWIS is an openly gay man who has been a very generous benefactor of hers in many ways. he has a statement about her:

Keith says:

"As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family."

There were plenty of question that would have INCLUDED all Americans in the process, not just some.

sure, don’t talk about minorities or important issues- just talk about straight white males. good plan kelly.

He was wrong to ask her, it was a no win situation for her.

not at all, the pageant always has asked questions about current events and social issues. it was a perfect question. if she is prejudiced and homophobic, that is no ones fault but her own.

He thought that he would get the message out that HE wanted. Instead, he got her truth.

yep, her truth, she sure gave the message - that she is not fit to be Miss USA. she has a lack of good judgement and is biased and prejudiced against those who are different than her - thank god it came out plainly before the crowning ceremony.

It was great. An American standing up for their opinion. GREAT.

and the successful Americans in charge of the pageant stood up for what is right - and did not crown her. GREAT!

He got put in check Kelly! If the idiot doesn’t want the truth then he shouldn’t have asked for it…..He needs to go do gay pageants, then he can ask the gay contestants what they feel about real marriage between a man and a woman, LOL. Then it won’t be reported in the news because nobody gives a damn what they think!

HA BIBI …there are drag contest and gay parades…where he would feel right at home. But that isn’t what he wants, he needs to conquer the straight community.

He got just what he deserved…he doesn’t have enough respect for women to expect for her to stand her ground.

That’s it! PERFECT word, they are trying to "Conquer" and they attempt to do this by shoving their nonsense down everyone else’s throat, when they ought to be concerned with what’s being shoved "down or up" theirs, pun intended, LOL!

Yes HA BIBI…they are not happy with having their own…they NEED to force the heterosexual community to conform to theirs. Its all about validation and justification.

They should revel in their difference instead of insisting that they are just "the same" as straight people. That’s where they miss the mark….

"I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage." But then, still thinking aloud, she made a decision. She decided to take a stand for traditional values. More to the point, she decided to stay true to her principles: "You know what, in my country and in my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman – no offense to anyone out there – but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be, between a man and a woman."

Starry, I know how hard it is for you to get those pesky quotes on target…so I thought I’d help you out a bit!

unfortunately this young woman was wrong in her pesky quote.

I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage."

that’s wrong - you cannot choose one or the other unless you live in Vermont or Iowa or the other progressive, patriotic american states that have legalized equal rights for gay americans.

The only thing she mis-quoted was the fact that Homosexuals can "Marry"…..They cannot in most states. But if you take the whole of her statement, she is right. Lemon, you really need to realize that "patriotic" has nothing to do with homosexuality. There are many in both of your listed states that don’t take kindly to homosexuality. Remember, you are only 1% of the populace.

Lemon, you really need to realize that "patriotic" has nothing to do with homosexuality.

ha bibi, what you really need to realize is that "patriotic" has nothing to do with american laws reflecting your arbitrary opinions and religious beliefs about humanity. patriot means agreeing with the constitution and the bill of rights, which states that all men (humans) are created equal and deserve to have the same, exact human rights extended to them regardless of sex, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, class, age or disability.

There are many in both of your listed states that don’t take kindly to homosexuality.

yes i’m aware of that, and there are many in states that don’t take kindly to womens’ rights or equal rights of black americans.

yet their laws reflect the standard of american human rights i was raised to believe in - that all people have the same exact equal rights regardless of religious or majority opinion.

Remember, you are only 1% of the populace.

strange… i am not a homosexual Ha Bibi, i’m not sure what you mean. i am currently in love with a male - and since i was born biologically female, not intersexed or transgendered, i would guess that means i am in a heterosexual relationship.

and as for 1%… the figure is more close to 10% since most homosexuals are rightly terrified of retribution and hate crimes against them and underreport their sexual orientation.

HA BIBI
Well I can certainly say that you sure advocate for homosexuals, causing most to believe that you are!
