Miss California Carrie Prejean Becomes Conservative Darling Amid Gay Marriage Brouhaha

Carrie Prejean may have lost the Miss USA crown, but she sure won the hearts of conservatives. What is it with the GOP and beauty queens? Don’t forget that Sarah Palin was once an aspiring Miss Alaska! (swimsuit competition video here)
Miss California has been blasted since the Miss USA competition Sunday night, when she said on national television — much to the dismay of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton — she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. She later said that while she doesn’t regret voicing her beliefs, her stance is what left her in second place. But since then, Politico reports, Prejean has found a slew of supporters from conservative bloggers, talk-show hosts and others on the right.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins stated his "admiration and support" for Prejean and said she "has been victimized by this flagging production in a vain attempt to generate interest through controversy rather than substance." One Alabama state legislator even introduced a resolution praising her for speaking out against gay marriage; it passed by voice vote.
Others applauded her for speaking her mind, even if it may not have been politically correct enough for the pageant crowd.
"It was refreshing to see someone not give the politically correct answer," writes a Kansas City Star columnist. "Predictably, conservatives and some Republican politicians are embracing Prejean because of her comments. That’s fine, too, because she’s getting a positive reaction for speaking her mind."
Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe franchise, told FOX News that he has received thousands of calls and letters, the majority of which support Prejean’s stance.
"Miss California has done a wonderful job, that was her belief … It wasn’t a bad answer, that was simply her belief," Trump said, adding that Prejean’s question was "a bit unlucky," and that no matter how she answered, "she was going to get killed."
Perhaps if Prejean’s current career plans don’t work out, she could find a niche for herself in politics. The GOP could use more women in its ranks!

I’m just so annoyed and tired of being persecuted for my beliefs too. I feel the same way as Carrie and so did majoirty of Californians according to prop 8. I have nothing against Gay people being together and they can do whatever they want with each other, but they can not marry! Marriage is something a sacred a special thing between a man a women who forms a union and create and start a family. And I’m so tired that a small minority of poeple who speaks up and yells and screams louder than the majority think they can change that.
Where are my rights? is it ok if I feel and think this way, am I allowed to exsist in this world now? Or do striaght people like me need to just shut up and go hide in the closet now? because believing in man and women marriage is a really SHOCKING and radical idea I guess. Please let me know!
very right. i’m so tired of the "i’m being persecuted by the minority!" line.
their rights and freedoms are protected and safe - they are simply trying to legislate and force their arbitrary religious beliefs on the rest of the country.
oh please. "i’m so persecuted! i’m the majority and my rights are completely protected! don’t persecute my discriminatory beliefs! don’t persecute my persecution of the rights of gay people!" what a laugh. please, go back and think that one over again joe.
you must be tired of america. the US constitution is all about majority rule with respect for minority rights. one of those minority rights is the free exercise of religion or the freedom from religion with a government neutral to religion so as to prevent state endorsement of one faith or state persecution of another. what you are advocating is the idea of tyranny of the majority! what exactly about a gay marriage "persecutes" your beliefs?
what about a homosexual marriage hurts your rights? your right to feel above them?
basically you are implying that since the majority thinks a certain way, the government should espouse that thought, correct? the majority thinks there should be prayer in schools, so be it. the majority thinks gay marriage is wrong, so gays should be treated as second-class citizens.
well, the majority also thought women shouldn’t vote, alcohol should be federally prohibited, and blacks shouldn’t integrate with white society, too.
equality, equal rights, means equality even for people you don’t like - that is why america is a wonderful nation - the constitutional respect for all and equal rights for all - even the ones you don’t agree with, joe.
you have absolutely no right to try and dictate who has what rights - it is totally unacceptable for you to attempt to politicize, legislate and therefore force your (presumably) religious beliefs on other people.
no one is persecuting the majority who has their rights. your rights are protected, joe - you can marry the opposite-sex human of your choice as long as they are of age. you are enjoying your rights at this very moment, and you are not being "persecuted" for that. if you feel marginalized, perhaps it is because you are against equality and somehow think your rights trump others - not because you’re straight or you believe a man and woman can get married.
think about it.
Gays can live together, gays can have sex anyway they want to, they own property, they can write living wills, they have all of the individual rights that I do.
Marriage is between a male and a female.
They have their "commitment ceremonies". They just want to force mainstream Americans into accepting "gay" marriage so that they are justified in their sexual choices. They want to hijack a heterosexual institution for their own narcissistic validation.
There are plenty of Americans that do not care what they do behind closed doors. Not going to worry about that. But to tell our children that "marriage" between same sex partners is the "norm" is not a helpful or honest thing.
Biology and the Bible bear that out. Pick one.
Marriage is between a male and a female.
why?
They just want to force mainstream Americans into accepting "gay" marriage so that they are justified in their sexual choices.
it’s true - everyone wants to be accepted. but what gay marriage advocates are trying to secure are, plainly, equal rights. you overlook the fact that in the case of Loving v Virginia (us court case), it has been clearly spelled out that marriage is a fundamental right. absolutely none of the bills passed in states that allow gay marriage have included language that demands that anyone "accept" anything.
allowing and accepting are two entirely different things. can you grasp that concept, kelly?
They want to hijack a heterosexual institution for their own narcissistic validation.
… no, they fall in love, want to get married, settle down, have kids probably, go to their jobs, and retire and die.
are you trying to say that everyone who gets married only wants narcissistic validation?
But to tell our children that "marriage" between same sex partners is the "norm" is not a helpful or honest thing.
yours is not an argument against gay marriage, but an argument against gays. recognize that, kelly. you are prejudiced and homophobic and it shows in your beliefs.
and, it certainly would be helpful and honest to teach tolerance, compassion and acceptance to our children. that which occurs in nature is, by definition, natural. homosexuality is quite a natural phenomenon, having been studied and viewed in countless studies - and for those who are gay, it is certainly "the norm".
for the kids of gay parents, they are most certainly "the norm". for gay kids and gay teens, it is most certainly the norm.
it would be helpful because you are trying to demonize gay people by denying them equal rights that you enjoy, kelly in texas - teaching discrimination and unfounded prejuidice to your children against minorities is pretty evil. it is honest because it is true.
once again, homosexuality is natural - no matter how much you don’t like it. and the bible has no place in secular laws. period.
try again.
Lemon Tea…you can throw all the vile names at me that suit you. I will stand by my beliefs. I do not have to "try again."
No one I know "teaches descrimination". However, marriage between same sex partners is not natural. To pretend that it is, is not true. It is a sexual choice…period. Who and how and when someone has sex is their business…I do not care.
Homophobic, I am not. Gays have every right that is available to other Americans. Marriage, is between a male and a female. Period. That is my belief.
And as with any other issue, I would expect any child of mine to be respectful, kind, caring, helpful, honest, tolerant and compassionate. They most certainly have the ability to distinguish between a difference in beliefs and human rights.
I do not believe that marriage between same sex partners is a natural state.
Plenty of others feel the same way and we are not happy with having the gay agenda forced on us at every turn. What they do behind closed doors should stay behind closed doors.
Should be part of some bill of rights. We have the right to freedom of religion (ie belief)…. oh wait. I think it’s already there.
