Miss Universe Australia Stephanie Naumoska: I'm Not Too Skinny

Stephanie Naumoska has a message for everyone criticizing her about her weight (or lack thereof): Back off.

Naumoska, a Miss Universe Australia finalist, raised some eyebrows for her skin-and-bones look in Sydney Wednesday night when she strutted down the catwalk in a skimpy red bikini that showed off her sharp angles. At least one judge said she was too skinny, although that wasn’t the reason he voted against her. The competition was supposed to promote "healthy, proportioned, bodies." "Bony or Beautiful?" newspaper headlines said over photographs of Naumoska. The Daily Mail says Naumoska is far below the malnutrition line.

Her agency lists her as being 5’9" and weighing 105 pounds, although Naumoska thinks she weighs around 115 pounds. Naumoska said all the focus on her weight is "unfair" and that many of her friends are tall and very thin.

"I have never been anorexic or bulimic, I don’t throw up my meals after I eat them, I don’t starve myself, none of that," she said, according to Australia’s Herald Sun. "I eat six to eight healthy meals a day.”

"I’m here to defend the skinny people,” Naumoska told "A Current Affair."

For a judge to say she’s too skinny, SHE’S TOO SKINNY.  Why do we continue to promote unhealthy anorexia bodies to women who eat a healthy diet and has curves?  Models look like 12 year olds with implants and it isn’t attractive.  What year are we going to stop making women starve themselves in order to look like a skelton?  Sad.

Ever since I passed the age of about 12, I have thought that beauty pageants are sexist and demeaning to women. This is perfect proof, where women are commented upon regarding their appearance and weight like a bunch of cattle.

DeBura obj,

Of course you’re right. But many women continue to struggle to be a part of the herd.

I think it’s sad that the judge would assume this of her. Not all skinny people have a disorder that keeps them that way. I agree about the pageant demeaning women. but hey, to each their own. Some girls/women have grown up around it and see nothing wrong with it. But i do think it’s wrong that the judge would think that.

I am really sorry for her…l am 5’9" and even 130 lbs is way too little for our frame…. imagine 105 lbs… waaaaaaay not enough weight….. And by the way, I did gain a lot of weight after childbirth, and it took me about 9 years to get to a healthy 145… which is perfect for a 5’9" person…

"I’m here to defend the skinny people,”

ha! what a laugh.

yes, skinny people are so very marginalized and tortured, arent they? not like the fat-phobia that we barely see…

p.s.

let’s see some average, oddly-shaped and fat women on these shows… that would even out the score.

hey, how about one for men to strut around in skin-tight speedos? that would be a great way to level out the playing field. and we’ll discuss his pec size, his muscle shape and whether or not he’s too skinny.

I’m 5’9" with light bones, even when weigh 123 lbs. everyone says ‘eat something." So 105…can’t even imagine…..I would think even with a light frame 120 lbs would be the min. for health.

World Swimwear has cute swimsuits for all shapes. I am a model and I am skinny naturally. All the time I get rude insulting comments from big or weight concerned ladies. However, I feel regardless of another persons weight, it is RUDE to make comments and assume that the person skip meals or starve themselves. I even had a female boss start to treat me poorly because she would see me eating a big breakfast and lunch..meanwhile she was on an endless diet. Stop the HATE and stop comparing yourselves to others!

Well, if she does not want her weight and appearance commented upon, then she should get off the pageant circuit… because pageants are all about ideal looks.

Personally, in this age when women are striving to be the professional equals of men, I think pageants are outdated and need to go away.  Women have plenty of other avenues to real success.

Someone should find out what her definition of "healthy meals" is. She said she ate 6-8 of them daily.

I, too, think these pageants are sexist and should be banned. Hopefully she’ll watch the videos of herself and see how her body compares to theirs when they are all together.

There’s a bright side to this [I hope] and that is that if young girls are watching they’ll see the disparity between her body and the others. Perhaps this will help them to rethink this idea that anorexia-looking bodies are in vogue.

Yes, you ARE too skinny, dahling.  Don’t argue with Mommy.

Just go EAT something.

I just watched her photo and that woman is skinny. Gees! Anytime a one can see a person’s skeletol bones under her skin, that means she is too skinny. Sorry! That woman does not have a healthy body weight.

Donald Trump fired Khloe Kardashian in this season’s apprentice for a DUI saying he doesn’t like people who engage in reckless behavior. Well, The Donald should fire himself for allowing this unhealthy woman to participate in the Miss Universe pageant as is it a bad example for young girls. Set some standards on the pageants too Mr. Trump since you are the owner of the franchise.

I had to search for a photo of her because, oddly, none of the articles I read about her actually showed a picture.  She is pretty darn skinny!  Frankly, I wish they would just stop having these pageants.
