Who would play me? Whoopi.

Sheila Nevins's Movie, Starring ... Liz Smith?

I would like to be represented by Scherezade (sic). She is the story of my life. Telling stories to save her life. That is what I do. I would be played by Lizzie Smith who is the only one who can pull off those many veils and yarns without tripping. It would be Liz’s debut and starring role. I would (she would) spin many a tale and when she got bored amusing le roi — it is she who would behead the King rather than the other way round. This feminist twist would make the legendary story contemporary with the swirling Liz in charge of the brutal but dramatic decapitation finale. At the Academy Award ceremony for best picture based on an ancient-tired theme, Liz would accept the honor graciously acknowledging only "me" as the sole inspiration for the acclaimed film.

Who Would Liz Smith Cast to Play Her? Hilary Swank Or ...

I don’t believe we have an actress callow and immature enough to play me, but how about someone I resemble very slightly? The wonderful Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank, who is about to play Amelia Earhart. She has that slightly tomboyish aspect. (Although when she is all dressed up, she’s a true beauty.) Or failing that, if we could bring back to life the zany actress ZaSu Pitts.

Joan Ganz Cooney: 'Little Miss Nobody From Stardom'

The actress is easy although hardly obvious: Emma Thompson (so I’d have to have a British accent). The title would be "Little Miss Nobody From Stardom," which is what my mother used to call me much to my puzzlement. It wasn’t until I got to New York that someone said to me, "The expression is ‘FROM Little Miss Nobody TO Stardom.’" Nonetheless I always liked the idea being from Stardom, wherever that place was.

The story would be a comedy. "Shaking off Mediocrity" perhaps.  The director will surely insist on an unknown… a true beauty or famed actress would surely never do…

Great Expectations in the Midst of a Recession—played by a young Elizabeth Taylor.  Hey!  I can dream.  This is my movie, after all.

Definitely DIANE LANE.  She doesn’t just play the part, she becomes the person — and so often the person is me.  You know she is a woman of many layers — and extremely good at all of them :-)!!  Face it - she’s me. Or as close as it gets.

Now I get more fussy — as I would have the male lead no less than Richard Gere.  My character would NOT be attracted to just anyone — no way.  Again - many-layered.  And without him, my character would not work - believe me!!!

The title?  The Unfettered Life.  Mine?  NO, not quite as no-holds-barred as that … but certainly one of living life to the fullest.  That is for sure …

DIANE LANE? I’ll tell you, Joan, we must eat the same kinds of food or something.  I know just why DL would morph into you. She exudes a quiet sexuality and an attraction to males of all shapes and sizes. SHE LIKES MEN. And you, being the sassy falling off a chair displaying your undies to various and sundry fit right in with her agenda. I think your film should be called, "Have Chutzpah, Will Travel" with a sub title, "but with no holes bared except thems that house the grizzlies." A rather long title, I grant you, but then it’s fair game when it’s you who is in charge.

I would love to meet and spend time with Diane Lane … as sometimes I think she is my other half.  Or perhaps the half I would like to see more in myself.  I think we would have a lot to say to each other.  It would be fun to interview her actually — but really … to just talk and talk - and I have never ever said that before about another.  . but we ARE much alike.

Has anyone else noticed that there are no teen stars out there struggling with real weight issues?  When I hit puberty I get tremendously fat in two months (got to a size 14).  Between sexual, physical, psychological and verbal abuse my size was the least of my worries.  Yet my fat was the most important thing in the world to everyone that I met.  Everyone commented about it constantly.

If there was ever to be a film of my life there would be nobody to play me, they are all too skinny!

The upcoming movie "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" will about extreme weight problem. But probably so many other issues: race issues, incest, abuse, poverty, so that it’s probably not what you meant.

At size 14, that’s only 30 lbs. overweight, right? Probably not enough for a whole movie. You’ll need more issues to make a movie unfortunately. How about "Hairspray"? But I think she was way over 30 lbs. overweight.

Emma Thompson is tied up with the Joan Ganz Cooney project so Diane Keaton will star in my Biopic, ‘Making Lemonade’.

They would have to get four or five different actresses to play me cuz I’m older than dirt plus I  surely have had more than my share of lives. Margaret O’Brian could be me as a youngster, but then we’d have to come up with  auburn haired females flinging themselves at life here, there, and everywhere and gosh, they’d be all tuckered out. Susan Hayward comes to mind, if anyone remembers her. I’d prefer to direct rather than star in, and Green Tear’s, Making Lemonade  would be a good place to start, cuz if Keaton can be as clever and funny as GT, then she’ll get the part. Eat your heart out Emma Thompson all tied up with Joanie.

Darn it, Phyllis — you picked Susan Hayward???  Talk about one-upping us from the start … as that look and personality stuns the watcher.  Our movies wouldn’t have a prayer!!!  What a gal you are - or were — but if I were to guess, you still are.

I can still picture her - and now I will always think "Phyllis".

Bless your heart, Joan, I am not alone in conquering up these lost lovelies. Trying to put oneself in other’s persona is an interesting task, or rather putting them into your persona. Susan had that light mixed with such seriousness that I suppose connected with me. What fun to have someone like you who remembers what someone like me remembers. Thank you, my friend.

Phyllis, what about Maureen O’Hara to play you? She’s a strong, feisty redhead! You might be able to fit ‘the Duke’ into your script as well.

Thanks for signing on as director for me - I can just see the trailer beginning: Making Lemonade, a phylm by Phyllis. The more I consider it, I do believe that Diane Keaton has just the right amount of quirks to do me justice.

What a fun, thought-provoking topic!

Dear Tears of Green: Maureen O’Hara is not me for several reasons: She’s bigger boned than I am; Although I can speak with an Irish lilt, it is not my usual way of speaking; there was always something grand, fine, angry and determined about her, I, on the other hand, have been endowed with a sense of humor that wouldn’t pass muster with her; The Duke I’d send packing after I set him up with guns and a horse––ain’t my cup of tea. And speaking of tea, our "phylm" together should be a smash, even though we are green at it, we may get lucky and make some good aide from all those lemons.
