So-called octomom Nadya Suleman, who has been under scrutiny as a single mother of 14 children, reveals in an interview with a celebrity magazine how she afforded costly in-vitro fertilization.

Suleman told Life & Style Weekly she saved the money she earned working 16-hour days as a psychiatric technician to pay for the in-vitro procedures that cost about $6,000 per child. Suleman, who has a total of 14 children, also said that a deceased aunt left her a portion of a $30,000 inheritance to conceive twins. Leftover eggs from that pregnancy were frozen until she used them (all of them) to give birth to the octuplets. 

"Maybe it was selfish," said Suleman, according to transcripts of the interview provided by the magazine. "I’m the first to admit that. Maybe putting in all the eggs was a mistake, but all I’ve ever wanted is a huge family."

Seven of the octotots delivered January 26 have been released from Kaiser Permanante. Jonah, born with a cleft lip, needs to gain more weight before the hospital will release him.

Meanwhile, tabloid In Touch Weekly reports that Suleman’s highly buzzed-about reality show will not just follow the lives of Suleman and her 14 children … but will watch her find a suitable mate.
