A New York medical examiner said today that actress Natasha Richardson died of "blunt impact to the head."

Richardson, pictured here with her mother, Vanessa Redgrave, fell Monday during a private ski lesson in Quebec. Her husband, Liam Neeson, has been filming a new movie in Toronto. On Tuesday she was flown to New York, where she died yesterday.

Richardson’s colleagues and friends have been sending out their condolences.

Dame Judi Dench remarked, "She had an incredibly luminous quality that you seldom see, and a great sense of humor." Jodie Foster, with whom Richardson co-starred in "Nell," described her as "brilliant, beautiful, funny, talented beyond measure, as emotionally raw as she was razor sharp." She continued, "Tasha loved fiercely and that love continues in all of us who knew her. May Liam, her beautiful boys and her loving family hold her close as they move through this tragic moment."

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan, who played Richardson’s daughter in the remake of "The Parent Trap," celebrated the Tony Award-winning actress’s welcoming nature: "She was a wonderful woman and actress and treated me like I was her own." Mia Farrow also had kind words for the 45-year-old: "Tasha is irreplaceable. I cannot think of anyone kinder, more generous, thoughtful, smarter or more fun."

Such a shame that such a well-loved woman’s life has been cut so short.

reports are that she turned away the first ambulance that was summoned for her care.

I can understand many people would object to helmets.  Maybe there should be a rule (if not the law, maybe the ski facility itself) that when someone falls and injuries there head, they MUST be taken to the hospital for a check up.  Certainly, the injured person has no idea the extent of their injuries.

Wrong.  Canada has a better healthcare system than here. I know, I was born there. The problem is:  a brain injury is not like a broken arm.  Patients themselves have no way to determine how injured they are, especially if they are injured.  For head injuries, possible brain injuries, there should never be a "wait time" either in an ER waiting room or waiting until a neurologist arrives.  Yet, it happens daily. When the patient can’t or won’t wait, hospitals and doctors have brain-injured patients sign a release so they don’t incurr legal liability is done every day…and shouldn’t!!!!  Those patients should not be released…but there should be no wait time involved, no waiting for a neurologist to arrive…ever.  If I hadn’t been told to wait in the ER waiting room for 2 hours and then told (in DC, at one of this nation’s best hospitals) it would be hours more before a neurologist could see me…I wouldn’t be permanently disabled now.  Yes, they had me sign a release, too and I had no idea I was in the shape I was in.  The waiting room time increased my injury and by then, I was not thinking clearly.

I was born in Canada, now in US.  Frankly, Canada has a better healthcare system than in the US.  And, a family isn’t bankrupted when there is a major illness!

I was born in Canada as well Sharon and have relatives that are still there. It was not a good system twenty seven years ago when I left and is not a good system now. It is ‘free’ and that is the only thing that is good about it. If Candians actually took the time to sit down and look at how much this ‘free’ health care system costs them they would be shocked. My brother did after he retired and he was just a blue collar worker. Over 46% of his income goes towards paying for this failing system. That is a lot of money. He and his friends (retired) will come into the USA if they have major concerns as many are put on waiting lists for care that are often more than a year long. I do believe that our system here in America needs to be changed but I have yet to hear of a plan of action. All I hear is how ‘great’ Canada’s is and I am tired of this lie being circulated. We can do better.

It has been made public that the delay in her care is what killed her. I believe if she had been brought home she would be alive right now. My prayers are with her family daily.

While we are on this healthcare issue.  Why hasn’t Obama’s PLAN been put into the pipeline yet?  It’s the end of March.  He went on and on about having a plan during the election.  Meanwhile there are millions of Americans… MILLIONS… without any healthcare plan at all.  Some because they can’t afford it, but an alarming number who can afford it who have been denied coverage.  I saw a woman on TV admit she had been denied coverage due to a prior yeast infection.  Why hasn’t this president instituted regulations on providers - disallowing them from denying applicants or excluding preexisting conditions - if they want to continue doing business?  What about Obama’s campaign promise to open up the Congressional health plan immediately?  Why haven’t these interim steps been taken as they pound out the transition towards universal healthcare.  Too busy galavanting across the country, holding town hall meetings and making appearances on Leno?
